Having a hard time with water

Recommended Posts

I was banded last wednesday and have been on a liquid diet since. I don't really have trouble getting down broth, Protein Shakes, Jello, or popsicles but drinking Water is really unpleasant. Even though I take very small sips, I can feel it get stuck and then sort of glug down into my stomach. I'm a BIGGG water drinker so this is making my life really difficult-- any suggestions or maybe thoughts as to why this would be happening?

Are you drinking immediatly after drinking the other liquids or Jello? If so try spacing these out farther. Also make sure you are taking tiny sips. If that doesnt get better soon I would call the doctor. Good luck!

Sorry to hear of your problem. This is exactly what happened to me. The water somehow felt -heavy- to me. I called the dr. office and they, too, told me to take small sips and all that. That didn't help me. After many days of calling, they told me to watch the water and go to the emergency roomi if I felt faint. I called my regular dr., and she told me that I should be able to drink more. I was so afraid that I was going to become ill from dehydration and have to the emergency room.

I thought it was my problem, so I tried and tried to drink the water, but not enough.

I called the lap dr.'s office and insisted there was something wrong. I went in and the assistant said he would take some of the fill out! Fill? I had no idea I had a fill@! No wonder I was having a hard time swollowing. They had put a fill in at the time of the surgery without telling me.

I think it would be good to keep calling the doctor. Maybe it is a normal temporary problem and this might subside naturally, that would be excellent, but I'd definitely make sure they are aware along the way. good luck and hope you feel better soon!

Thanks!

I have been doing the small sips and separating it from meals as has been suggested, but I really get the feeling that I have the same issue with the band maybe having a fill. I know I have to take SMALL sips but I mean come on, there's only so much time in the day if they want me to get 8 glasses (haha). I've always been really dizzy because I have been avoiding the Water too because it's so unpleasant, so I'll definitely place a call to the doctor tomorrow. Thanks for the advice :)

Try mixing crystal light in your Water. The first couple of weeks water was sticky for me but if I had something mixed in it was slicker going down. This only lasted a few days or maybe a week or so.

I was having this issue to, and when I went in for post-op on Monday, they said it wasn't normal. They took out 1 cc of saline out of my band and a ton of air, and I felt 100 times better. I could feel Water going down. I wasn't able to "eat". I would be full within 2 or 3 bites of anything that went in my mouth. It was a very weird feeling.

I was the same way! But it will get better. Make sure you take Gas-X strips or something like that. That is so important because air or gas is in there. I took Gas-X strips every couple of hours. I was able to sip Water really good after a week. Hang in there!:)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
