Port Pain at 1 week Post Op

Recommended Posts

Hi. I was banded last week (July 30th) and noticed that the past few days, when I walk, I feel very tender and sore in the port area. Feels like the port is grinding into my skin. It is really uncomfortable. Is anyone else (that is recently banded) dealing with this issue? I am hoping this is a normal stage of the healing phase.

When I had my surgery, my port area was extremely painful. I would get sharp pains that lasted for abou a month. Everyone is different but typically that is the incision that hurts the most. I hope things get better for you.

I also had my surgery on 7/30, and I too still have port pain (AND gas pain, but it has definitely gotten better in the last couple days.)

Here's hoping we're both feeling good as new SOON! :)

I was a little shocked at the hideous looking port scar. Will this diminish over time? It is too painful to touch but I was able to lie flat for the first time last night which means it IS improving. I get so impatient. I want the days to pass so I can get over the initial weeks and move on with life. Drinking 1 ounce every 15 minutes has been annoying and I can't get all of my Protein in. I guess i will just have to go bald. ha ha

Amanda, my gosh congrats on your terrific weight loss. That is so encouraging to us newbies. I was banded 7/21/10 and still have port pain. I have been told by my doc's office that it is typical to be sore for months bcs it is connected to a muscle. They told me ice 15 min off and 15 min on whenever you can will help.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
