Hey, you're not alone, don't worry!! :w00t:

I lost 8 pounds the first week after surgery, and then nothing during the second week. I'm 2 weeks post-op right now. Like you, I'm completely baffled...and wondering if my body is going into "starvation mode" because all I'm having is liquids and mushies (where your metabolism slows down because your body thinks you're starving to death!)

Trying really hard to stay away from the scale, though, because it's messing with my mind. I think I'm going to toss it up in the attic or something and try to only weigh once a month. If you read these boards, many people have struggled with this and say that you have to focus on the long-term results. My doc says 1-2 pounds per week is the expected loss going forward, but jeez, I lost more than this when I was eating 1800 calories a day of real food!! Grrrrrr.

But I feel your pain!! :rolleyes2:

1-2 pounds is the average yes, but hey, on this diet it is permanent, on the other 300 I tried before it was always temporary, even when I lost 5-6 in a week...it always came back. This time it's not. Slow and steady wins the race ladies.

You are both healing at this stage. Believe it or not weight loss in the early days of being banded tends to be fairly slow for many of us. Yes, your body goes from 3000 calories a day to 1000 (or so, give or take) and yes it slows down for a while and tries to hold on to each and every one of those calories. Go through and read old posts from new bandsters...most of us did the exact same thing and had the exact same thoughts. I think we all just expect it to be falling off. Follow your doctors diet. Eat/drink your Protein. Do your exercise. Drink your Water. It will come off and it will improve. Don't give up and try not to get frustrated. If you're like most of us it took you years to get to this point and the weight is not going to all come off over night. Again, slow and steady. But it does get better! Good luck!

If you don't have any Fluid in your band yet, you probably won't lose much at all. I lost 11 pounds in my first week and my practitioner told me that until I had some restriction I really wouldn't see much more weight loss.

Keep your chin up and you WILL get there!

A couple of things.... like someone else stated, your band is probably not filled yet so you still will experience hunger and pre-band situations until you get good restriction. Secondly, the band is a tool. It is not a miracle. The weight didn't come on overnight so don't expect it to leave overnight. Third, four pounds is a great loss. Would you rather it be a four lb gain.....? Not me. Lastly, it may make you feel better to know that I gained a pound my first month post op (eating those dang mashed potatoes). So don't worry and be discouraged. Weightloss is coming! Just look at my pics, yet alone others.

I was banded five months ago.

Do some searches for "bandster hell" and you'll find all the answers to these questions. Many (most) have experienced it - but know it does get better.

Good luck and stay focused!

If nothing else, I have learned that the band is a sloooooow process. Don't look for much weight loss until you are significantly restricted (for me, that was at 6cc-ish). Bandster hell sucks because you had the surgery and expect to lose weight, but you won't for a while. Be patient and make sure you are getting lots of Protein. I like the nectar powders - lots of Protein and no carbs.

Good Luck!!!!!!

I agree with Queen Fig..stay away from the carbs...like mashed potatos..keep up the Protein 60 grms a day..so add unflavored Protein Powder to Soups that will help and get a digital scale that has a reading like 150.5 so if you lose .1 pound you can have something to celebrate!!

I actually lost alot in the first few weeks but my dr. told me if I lost during that time it was a bonus. She said the first 6-8 weeks was mainly for healing. Dont worry you'll be fine. Im at a stage where I quit losing(4 months out) but Im not worried, I had 1 fill so far. Im just glad I've been able to maintain through "bandster hell". I get another fill on the 5th so hopefully Ill get back to losing, if not, theres the next fill. Everyone is different so dont be disappointed, especially so soon into this! You didnt put it on overnight so dont expect it to come off overnight. Just do as your dr. tells you and youll be fine! Instead of trying to obsess about my week to week or month to month loss I try to think about where Ill be in a year from now. I dont even have a scale in my house, I get weighed when I see dr every 2 months and I like it that way! You'll be fine!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
