August rush 2010!!!

We already have 2 other August threads going but let's all try to consolidate all of our thoughts and encouragement into one thread so that we can all support each other and face our fears and struggles together.

I was originally to be banded last March 2010 so I started posting there and I love how that thread is still going with many of them having great success and encouraging each other.

My name is Dee and after much hassle with my surgeons office staff I have a surgery date of 8/16.

I have an appointment with him on 8/3 and there I will discuss my concerns about aftercare and dealing with his staff. Hopefully, all will go well and I won't have to cancel my surgery and find another surgeon.

I have been going through this process now for over a year. I started out with NYU but found after I paid them $750.00 out of pocket that my insurance is out of network for them. They made promises but I didn't want to risk getting stuck with a humongous bill. I want to be thin and healthy not bankrupt.

I found another surgeon that accepts my ins. and he seems nice enough and is the Director of the bariactric program at his hospital but his staff has treated me like I'm begging for a free surgery.

Well anyway, I'm planning to start my pre-op liquid diet on 8/2 anyway on my own advice.

I'm looking for much support and encouragement and am willing to do the same for all of you August rush people.

Kellyodoran came up with the name August rush!!

Amazing difference between today and Sunday. Finally have energy, and I know it was from actually being able to get the protein and calories that were needed.

If anybody else is having a hard time "eating" or drinking after surgery, call your doctor. It isn't normal. They can take out what little bit of saline is in your band.

Hello all!

I haven't been on here for a while and it looks like things are picking up if you know what I mean. I went yesterday for some "teaching" and received a large amount of information that I ended up leaving behind. I go for my physical on the 16th and surgery is on the 24th. I'm on day 2 of the pre-op diet and I'm going to take it 1 day at a time. I do have a headache today, not sure if it's from the diet or the people I work with LOL! Catch up with everyone soon. Thanks for all of your posts.

I just had my surgery yesterday and I'm really excited about it. I read all about these post op healing and was prepared. So yes, I am bloated and it's annoying. I also can't breathe in as deep as I could yesterday pre-surgery. I'm assuming it's because I'm bloated out of my mind. The doctor also had to repair a hiatal hernia.

Question: I know it's different for everybody but when does the bloatedness go away and did anybody else have trouble breathing as deep as before?

I m 6 days post op and still feel bloated and swollen but its getting better every day. Breathing deeply was hard the first couple of days but as your swelling goes down then it will make that easier for you.

Hi all I had my surgery this morning. So far it had been ok. My biggest complaint is the not being able to breath deeply. I was prepared for everything else, but not that :( I'm glad to hear that it will get better soon!

Its officially 1 week from my surgery Today...............Hurry up next tuesday!!!!!!

I'm new to this post...My date is Tuesday, August 17th as well! I have officially been approved by insurance, and am on day 4 of 10 of my liquid diet. It's not as bad as I thought, but it has it's moments....Had to have my DH feed the kids tonight!

I just can't wait for Tuesday!!!

Well I guess it's my turn....I'm getting banded tomorrow, 8/11, at 10 a.m.

I'm nervous, worried, excited, stressed. I just don't like hospitals and I HATE feeling sick/injured/etc.

I just want to get past this part to the good part.

Cross your fingers for me....I need it!

Wish you the best Jen!

Good Luck! You will do great!

Good luck tomorrow!!! I can't wait to hear all about it. :)

I have 2 1/2 more days!! Crazy!! Friday the 13th come on!

I'm banded! Trying to take it easy, feeling pretty good all things considered. Good luck to those still waiting!

Good Luck tomorrow Jen!! You will do great. I can't wait to hear your "surgery day story" :)

I'm officially 1 week from surgery and I saw the nutrionist today to start my 7 day all liquid diet. I was really worried about it, but I don't think it is going to be all bad. I can make my own shakes using no sugar carnation breakfast, greek yogurt and lots of ice. I can also blend atkins shakes with lots of ice. Like I said not so bad for day one but we'll see how I feel on day 5 lol.

I head to Texas on Tues for all the pre-op tests and I guess they will give me my surg time then.

I'm really excited but starting to get a little nervous too. Although I have spent two years researching and working on getting the band, I'm starting to wonder if it will really work for me ( I have more of a don't eat enough/right foods than eat too much ) I love to read all the success stories here but I stubled on kind of a " I hate the band " thread the other day and some of the posts really shocked me. I know I have the will power to do what I am supposed to: eat right, exercise, lots of water ect now I wonder will that be enough?

Last min jitters......man they suck! lol :)
