August rush 2010!!!

We already have 2 other August threads going but let's all try to consolidate all of our thoughts and encouragement into one thread so that we can all support each other and face our fears and struggles together.

I was originally to be banded last March 2010 so I started posting there and I love how that thread is still going with many of them having great success and encouraging each other.

My name is Dee and after much hassle with my surgeons office staff I have a surgery date of 8/16.

I have an appointment with him on 8/3 and there I will discuss my concerns about aftercare and dealing with his staff. Hopefully, all will go well and I won't have to cancel my surgery and find another surgeon.

I have been going through this process now for over a year. I started out with NYU but found after I paid them $750.00 out of pocket that my insurance is out of network for them. They made promises but I didn't want to risk getting stuck with a humongous bill. I want to be thin and healthy not bankrupt.

I found another surgeon that accepts my ins. and he seems nice enough and is the Director of the bariactric program at his hospital but his staff has treated me like I'm begging for a free surgery.

Well anyway, I'm planning to start my pre-op liquid diet on 8/2 anyway on my own advice.

I'm looking for much support and encouragement and am willing to do the same for all of you August rush people.

Kellyodoran came up with the name August rush!!

I got my phone call! I have to be there at 7:30 a.m. Tomorrow! WOW!! This tomorrow I'll be banded!!

I wish you the very best for tomorrow.

In a few hours it'll all be over and you'll be on your way.

Heavy cream and tartar sauce? My dr would have me strung up by my band.

AMARIS......how much did you loose on your pre-op diet? Just curious.

Right at 20 pounds -- maybe a little over. I started the pre-op diet on 13 July and my surgery date was 03 August. And I cheated three times; one time involved several cookies, so it was pretty bad!

Thanks! :) It went really well....I'm feeling good...except for gas pains in my back....but that was to be expected, right? I'm just hoping they go away soon!!

But the surgery went great....I did have a hernia that needed to be fixed as well....but I think my Dr. said that 50% of the patients who get the band end up having to have a hiatal hernia fixed as well. I asked him again this morning....b/c I was really groggy yesterday in the recovery room when I thought I heard that that had been done.

I'm home now....and just drinking water & apple juice. I'm not really hungry at ALL....tomorrow I start my protein - 2 week liquid post-op diet. I think with the practice from the 2 week prior to the surgery, I'll do just fine. We'll see! :wink2:

Anyway, I'm happy that it was over. I was kind of nervous...and as I was in the OR, I quickly thought to myself, "Is this what you really want to do???" hahaha....a little late, right? I think I was just freaked out by all of the apparatus in the cold OR!

Anyway, I"m glad to be be done...and home....and onto my road to recovery. :)

Jen, I am so happy that it went good for you, and your feeling good :)) My diet after surgery is a little different from yours it sounds like. I am on a stage three diet when I come home, which means protien shakes, yogurt, whipped cottage cheese, apple sauce, pudding...things like that. Funny to say but I am actually looking forward to stage four when I can eat scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes!! LOL the things ya crave when ya on a liquid diet LOL

Keep us posted and I am glad your doing good :))

Thank you msdv, I appreciate that!

Wow-- tomorrow!!

Checking in for pre-op! Whew~

I'll join the club getting my band tomorrow :) Saturday the 14th!

In pre-op! Got my IV....... Just waiting for them to take me back! Omg
