To cut or not to cut...that is the question?

Recommended Posts

My surgery was in March 2008, I have lost a total of 122 pounds. I have gone from a size 26 (tight fit) to a size 12(lose fit). My waist was 52 inches and is down to 32 inches. I have revenge of the skin! :cursing:

I have exercised the entire time, well, that is once I realized that I would NOT lose weight until I started exercising! Walking has truly been my redemption! Now, I have this lovely skirt of skin...I am not sure if I should cut it, or if exercise will ever shrink it? What is your opinion?

I especially want to hear from you if you had surgery? I need information regarding pain, scars, recovery time, etc.

Hi:

I went from 26/28 to 12/14 and I had a tremendous amount of loose skin. Had a full Tummy Tuck about 9 months after I had stopped losing. Best thing I've done. Hard to feel like a healthy, average-weight person when you sit down to pee and your lap lands on your legs.

There are 3 pics on my profile page that show just after banding, before tummy tuck, and after tummy tuck.

Take a look at the cosmetic surgery thread here and follow some of the threads that detail what the process was and you'll see that they all say it was worth it.

Best wishes to you.

Sue

I'm already investigating plastic surgeons.

Exercise can improve the appearance of the musculature under the skin, but it doesn't reduce excess skin.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
