Looking for September 2010 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Wanna.b- thats what we are hear for... to support each other, guide each other and help each other! I too have found this particular group very supportive and welcoming! I do feel this is my family... my lapband family!

Onceupon- I personally have decided to only tell my boyfriend, my parent, my sister (she told her hubby and thats okay with me) and my brother. None of us will be telling anyone else... at least not until I lose significant weight and people ask, but even then, I will be discrete with who I tell. Too many people have too many comments about other people. I personally don't need anyones negative thougths my way... My job knows I am having surgery but they think it is soley to repair my hiatal herina- and one friend thinks I am going for hernia repair as well. Oh and of course everyone here knows but that totally different.

NYslegend- That is a great idea to buy desert size plates for your primary plates. Good way to start thinking on the right page!

Sunny- I am scheduled for my pre op 2 weeks before my surgery... I heard of some people having it done within days of their surgery. I wouldn't worry about it but you should call anyway just for your own sanity. No need to worry or go crazy over something like that, they should be able to ease your mind!

Everyone- Have a wonderful weekend. I won't be around until Tuesday night so... may you all have a great few days!

Thanks for the thoughts! I do feel ready for a lifestyle change and feel that this tool is what I will need to make it happen this time. I'll be looking to my new forum friends for encouraging words and when I'm hungry in these 40 days until surgery, I'll type instead of eat -- how's that sound?

Hi wannabhealthy,

I do just that, read and type instead of eating those empty carbs. Especially after 5 pm; the hardest time for me. It works!!! To me, "that" is another tool: support! WE need several tools to helpd us fix what we feel is "broken" and keep it running after. And it helps me to read what everyone else is doing so I can pick the tools that are right for me. But we have ONE in common: THE BAND!!!!

Have a great day!

Hi all!! I'm new around here.

My surgery is set for September 16th. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and being in a network of support.

I'm going to do a little reading and lurking and catching up on the boards here, but wanted to through out my first question to you all.

How open are you being with people about what you are doing? Are you telling everyone? telling just family and close friends?

Paige

Greetings onceuponaband,

I don't have a formular in regards to who to tell. I will not lie, so if someone asked I give them a truthful answer. But I have been selective in telling people at this point, simply due to the fact that I am still learning a lot and don't need to be challenged with more then what I challenge myself with. But my boss knows, few co-workers, few family members , 2-3 friends and of course my boyfriend.

It will not be a secret, but I will also not tell the world around me... yet... But I do have to say: I can't wait until it is so, so ,so obvious that people will just have to ask me and I can then proudly say how the band and my hard work paid offffffffffffff....Happy Day!

What's going on people Sept People? So I went and bought the P90X, the Magic Bullet Express, weight scale for my food and some dessert plates to use as my reg plates. I can't wait to lose all these pounds :0)

I wanted to do something to Celebrate my new way of eating. On Sept. 2 my SIL and I are going to Hot Pots. It's a place where you can make your own ceramic plates, bowl, etc. I will design my new dinnerware. It's mine and no one else in the house will use it. I also plan to buy a child size (not baby) silver knife, fork, spoon set.

I would love to be able to wear my clothes that are in my dresser. My daughter is extremely excited about going shopping for "me" when I get to my goal weight. That should be an interesting trip. She is a design major, weights about 120lbs, 5'6" and I am a blue jeans and t-shirt kind of gal. It's amazing how I can have only 1 child and she be so different than me. She's the type that wears high heels with her jeans, I wear tennis shoes. I love outdoors, she does not. I have a degree in biology, she hates bugs and the list goes on and on.

swissnis -- Congratulations on getting your surgery date. Happy planning

purplevic -- Congratulations on your approval and your surgery date. So much to look forward too now.

kosy2 -- I have never heard of Hot Pots but what a way to Celebrate. A new beginning with new serving ware. I wish we had a place like that around San Antonio.

Well I just back from the grocery store looking for Soup, juice, Jello and popsicle. My sheet says cream soup and I bought just about everything that says "Low Fat Cream of" on it. Some actually look and sound good but maybe it's because I am hungry.

Got go drink my lunch.< /p>

Hi everyone!

Welcome to all the newer folks who have joined us!

About telling people - my "inner circle" of close friends know and are very supportive. I'm a pastor, and I have told my congregation council (leadership team) because of making sub arrangements for while I'm recovering. I've also decided to tell the whole congregation on the 29th (last Sunday before surgery and being off for two Sundays). We live in a small town, and if I didn't say what kind of surgery I was having, I would be dying of a brain tumor within 3 days (thanks to the rumor mill!) I decided that honesty was best - they would notice eventually that something was changing! I've asked a committee at church to explore ways in which we can promote wellness in the life of the congregation. We could all use an emphasis on health.

About pre-op stuff, I also haven't seen my surgeon since my first consult 6 months ago. I go this Wednesday for my pre-op class, return visit with the dietitian, check-in with the surgeon, and anesthesia consult. That's a week and a half before my surgery on the 3rd. I figure I'll get any "real" pre-op diet instructions then. Until then, it's just watching what I eat according to the dietitian's guidelines.

Getting more nervous and excited as we get closer. So excited for you, CS, as your date draws near!!!

My BMI was only 31 but I decided to get banded anyway and stop hating the way I looked. I paid cash for the surgery and just had it done 2 days ago. Looking forward to seeing that cash make a positive difference in the way I feel.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
