OK guys I was banded July 14th. Today I went for my 1 week check up. I haven't had any real problems. Yesterday my husband had to pick me up at work early cause I was having cold sweats and feeling light headed. Found out I was not getting enough Protein. Some turkey broth cured that right up.

Well Todays a different story. The doc says my port site is a little red and swollen and he put me on antibiotics come back in a week. He said its only been 8 days it could be alot of bruising but he wants to make sure..Im a nervous wreck I have heard horror stories..There is no pain in the area. Has anybody else seen redness and swelling in the port area 8 days out?

If I remember correctly I had some reddness and swelling too around my port incision. I was told as long as the sknin around the area was not warm to touch that it was normal. But my doctor did put me on antibiotics when I left the hospital after surgery anyways as a precaution. I hope all is well.

I had staples in my incisions and was scheduled to have then out on day 12. On day 11, a Sunday, my port incision got red and very sore. I went in earl and they removed the staples and but me on an antibiotic. Much better within 24 hours. No lasting effects.

Laylas Grandma: Sorry to hear about your port redness...but do you think the lightheaded feeling and cold sweats had anything to do with a possible reaction from the rednesss in the port?? You mentioned that you thought it was from not enough Protein. I'm glad your dr. put you on antibiotics and I'm sure it will clear up the redness you are experiencing. I'm not banded yet and scared about possible complications during and after surgery. I'm 62 years old and hope everything goes according to plan. Pls let us know how you make out. cat lady

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
