Hello All

I was banded on May 26th and am struggling following the rules. Like drinking well eating and no Pasta.

But worse of all I am finding my self eating even though I am not hungry, and then i leave my self feeling so sick I feel the food is seating in the throat. I got my first band fill on july 6th and fell the restriction, but i continue to eat more then i know i should.

I have always know I have issues with food, I eat when Im happy sad and every other excuses out there. But right now I cant seem to stop eating. I got this surgary to avoid health problems and provide a better life for my daughter, but I really dont know how to handle this. i am so scared I went through all of this and it will not work.

It sounds to me like you need to see a psychiatrist and work out your food addiction. Until you do, nothing is going to help you with your weight loss.

I think many of us have food addiction problems. And, I agree, psychological help would be hugely beneficial. However, many of us can't afford to do that. Any addiction is a struggle to win, and I personally feel food is one of the more difficult to overcome since we HAVE to eat to maintain our body/life. It's been a struggle for me to learn, on my own, how to find alternatives to eating. I exercise, I do yardwork (alot!), I always have a gum or a piece of sugarless candy with me. It's a learning process to be able to ask yourself "Am I really hungry or do I want to eat because x, y, or z is going on?" Do I fall sometimes? You bet.... However, I've learned that on those occasions, it's a smart thing for me to have something that's an acceptable alternative to crap to eat. For me, a fruit bar or an italian ice works. There's always one or both in my freezer. And the funny thing is that as time has gone on, they sit there for longer and longer periods because I've learned that I don't need to eat when x, y, or z happens.

Don't get me wrong. I am certainly not saying that everyone can overcome addictions on their own. If you can afford psych help, get it. Look for support groups. I go to the monthly meeting at my docs on occasion and I am on LBT to read, and occasionally post, when I need a bit of help. You can do this. It's not easy. We didn't gain weight prior to having surgery because we had good habits. Learning new habits and a new way of life is HARD. But you can do it. Sometimes it's one day at a time, and sometimes it's one minute at a time, but you can do it.

Thank you for the replies,

I feels better knowing that others are facing the same problems. I have been debating attending an overeaters anoyomus meeting. I think this could help. It is a struggle. Im not sure if it will help or not, but i do know when i attended weight watcher meeting i was very succesfull and the minute i stopped going i put back on the weight. If that does not work I will probaly look into a doctor. I also read from another post about a book that can help that im going to order.

I am more hopeful today then yesturday, but likeyou said it is a day by day hour by hour thing.

Being honest, I never really thought I was one of those people, but lately, I have be realizing that I am a stress eater. I have a predetermined plan of what I usually eat when I binge. I'm really happy that I have the band, but I can't honestly say that it doesn't scare me a little bit nevertheless

I think the majority of us on here have food addictions. I think overeaters anonymous would help you alot. At least you have the guts to admit that you are an overeater and want to seek help. In the meantime I would make sure to stock up on fruits and vegetables and no junk food. That way if you do want something to eat you have healthier foods to choose from. Good luck!!!!

I soooo agree! I too think that most all of us here are food addicts.... Beating an addiction takes dedication and attention, it won't just go away if ignored or thought to be "overcome". It is a daily effort to make the right choices and to keep motivated, or at least it is for me. I have become very lax on my journey in the last few months and the scale is telling on me. That is why I am back here, for the support I need (we all need) to stay on task. I wish each of you success on your own journey! Keep on coming back here to continue to stay motivated and inspired along the way........ Ann

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
