C-Section and Lap Band

Recommended Posts

So Im pregnant and now am covered by my new husbands insurance, so this means LAPBAND! My question is how long after a c-section is it safe to get lap band? I really would like to do it soon after the baby so that my BMI will be where I need it to be to get covered. Any helpful advice would be great! :)

Sorry, I don't know for sure. I had a c-section on August 2009 (as well as in 2007 and 2005) and will likely get the band in August 2010 assuming all goes well :), but I'm assuming I could have gotten the band earlier, I just didn't start the process until recently.

Plus I know with your federal BC/BS Basic you won't need a six month waiting period. I would go ahead and start the process once you've recovered from your c-section (maybe 1.5-2 months afterward). Then your weight will at least be documented and you can start the process. Even without the six month waiting period, it can still take awhile from the time you start the process to surgery date. Good Luck!

Hi. I'm not sure if there is a time frame but. I had my last c-section 8/26/08 and my band placed on 10/20/09... a year and 2 months later. It took me that long to get to my surgery goal weight. I'm sure I would have do so sooner without incidence. I would think that once your body healed... You should be okay....It's a totally different area.

I got a lapband a year after I had my baby. The body must be able to recover first before you can undergo such procedure.Maybe you don't have to wait for a year but I think 8mos or so.By the way have you heard of Elana Nightingale Dawson? The 29-year-old on the fast track to turning into a star litigator started to have the baby as she started the final part of the Illinois bar test. Demonstrating the sort of inner strength it takes to be a mom, Dawson performed breathing exercises through the painful contractions, finished the test, and then gave birth to her child via Caesarian part less than two hours later. I found this here: Illinois woman goes into labor during bar exam

I had a c-section on 9-1-10, when i went for my lap consult on 6-24 she said it was perfect since insurance needs at least 6 months of diet attempts and fairlures. I documented 9 months from the time I had the baby and typed it up. If you want a copy of what I typed up send me a PM and I can email it to you. Have a happy and healthy pregnancy and good luck on your lap journey!! Cara

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
