I am on my 5th day post-op and I just literally cried over popcorn.< img src="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png" alt=":)" srcset="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I am so insanely hungry. I cant have anything other than liquids for 6 more days. I have been doing ok, but my husband has been eating Cereal and sandwiches and stuff that doesnt smell up that house because he is trying to be considerate. But the kids asked for popcorn and OMG it smells so delicious! Last night I was so close to just eating a few crackers and letting them dissolve into mush in my mouth but i held back and today Im so close to messing up again but Im holding back. I am taking this an hour at a time literally but I just cant forsee being this hungry for another 6 days! Is this normal?! I just want a few bites of something!

It's VERY normal! It's called lap band hell. Do you have any Protein shakes that you can drink?? I was supposed to be on Clear Liquids for 7 days post op but day three got like you are now and doc said no prob have a shake. The Protein filled me up and made it bearable!

Hang in there! It will pass! You are doing great!

Hugs,

Heather

What helped me was sugar-free popsicles. You can kinda satisfy your need to "chew" and it's a liquid. If you're on full liquids, get sf fudgesicles!! It really does help. Also, if those tricks don't help, call your nutritionist or doctor's nurse and see if you can sneak some mushies in every once in a while.:) Good luck and stay strong!

Thanks so much. I will go eat a popsicle now, I havent tried that yet! I dont have any clear Protein shakes but if Im worse tomorrow, I will probably go ahead and have at least a small Protein shake. Glad to know its normal, I was seriously feeling like such a fatty/loser for crying over food. It reminds me of when I was preggo, I think the cravings are even stronger now, bleh!

Thanks again! And if anyone else has more suggestions, Im open to that too :-)

check with your nutritionist. I was allowed 1/2 cup of cottage cheese. this I mixed with 1/2 cup of sf Jello. i know it sounds weird but it really helped me!!! check b4 u eat all centers are different!! i had to do low/no carb diet for 2 wks to shrink liver. (my liver was beautiful day of surgery) I only had to do 2 days of liquid diet which allowed Protein Shakes and a bit of cottage cheese!

Honey, a lot of us have been there. Don't give another thought to being a "fatty/loser". You can do this.:thumbup::thumbup:

I thought lapband hell was the term used for the time that we can eat whatever we want due to no restriction? I guess I was mistaken.

Lapband or bandster hell is the point post op until your first fill or two when you get restriction.

I am in Lap band hell and hating it!! Ugh, I'm only 2 1/2 weeks post op but my doctor has me on mushies and soft foods already. I can eat up to 2 cups each meal now and still not be satisfied. It really stinks, I was about in tears when I weighed in and found I gained this week. I totally understand where you are coming from, I wish I could say it gets better, but I'm not there yet myself... can't wait for that fill!!

I am 3 and a half months post op and still remember that first week hunger. One thing i did was scramble up an egg and mix it with my chicken broth. It was like egg drop Soup. it makes the egg very soft and fluffy. That really helped with the hunger. I also recommend can campbells chicken broth, its way better than the paper box varieties. I also went to Protein Shakes and bolthouse farms fruit smoothies around day five so good luck and it will be worth it. PS no popcorn the kernals can easily irritate your stomach.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
