2 weeks post op..did this happen to you

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks post op now and besides the occasional dehydration I have been great.

I am still on an all liquid diet for another week. Yesterday I had the strangest sensation. My stomach basically blew up and got rock hard..I had a little reflux and I felt a burning pain in my stomach. I went to the ER and they did a Upper GI and showed no signs of slippage. They gave me some protonix and sent me home. I stayed on Clear liquids all day and finally just made myself a Protein Shake. I took 2 baby sips and I felt that burn again. My stomach got hard again and I cant drink it.

I was up to drinking about 4-6 ounces of shakes per hour and now I can barely get 3 sips down. Is it possible to have erosion this early on??? I dont know what else it could possibly be..

Anyone have this happen to them...I am trying to think what I did differently and the only 2 things I can think of is I lifted my daughter a couple times which I wasnt suppose to do and I wore my jeans which were a little tight in the waist area.

HELP!!!

Maybe you have an intolerance to something in the Protein Shake. food intolerances cause symptoms such as nausea, bloating gas etc .

I've no idea what could be the cause and not heard of that type of experience from anybody else here. Would suggest that you make an appointment with your surgeon pronto. Your symptoms sound serious. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
