 Tell me the truth....how bad is it with the "stuck?" Pain, pressure of just uncomfortable? Are there any remedies other then a PB? (I think I read pineapple juice somewhere) And what the heck does slimming mean? I don't like the sound of that.......

The first time I got stuck the pain was as bad as I imagine a heart attack to be. It's also in the same place, middle of the chest in between your breasts.

Sometimes it is not as bad. It can range from mildly uncomfortable to I think I'm about to die. Sometimes it is over quickly, sometimes it can last for hours or longer.

There are all sorts of suggested remedies. Walking, jumping up and down, downward dog(yoga position) pineapple juice, papaya enzymes etc. I have heard that guzzling a fizzy drink really quickly can unblock you but only do it near a sink/toilet as it apparently brings everything up really fast. i haven't been game to try that yet.

The only thing that works for me is trying to bring up the stuck item.Afterwards you can still be swollen and sore - at that stage I find sucking crushed ice helps as it reduces the swelling.

Sliming is nothing to fear. it is just excess salive which your body produces to help the stuck item slide down. As you are stuck or blocked it won't go down so you have to keep spitting it up.

As much as we all vow that we will chew properly and never get stuck I think it is almost inevitable. You will know that you are a REAL bandster once you've been stuck!

It feels like you are a vampire and Van Helsing just drove a wooden stake through your heart.

You feel like you can't breath but if you don't panic, you will realize there is nothing wrong with your breathing.

The sliming is fun, it looks like jellyfish swimming around in the toilet.

I am almost 2 months post-op and I've only had 1 thing get stuck so far, but then again I only have 2cc in my band. It's kinda scary I wont lie. With me I just felt like I needed to get it up, and swallowing didnt help because it gave me a panic feeling... And the sliming comes with it... I just spit a lot and really didnt get a lot out...after about 10 mins I felt sooooo much better. My dr reccommends pineapple juice mixed with a teaspoon of meat tenderizer. I didn't have to use it, but i keep it handy. Good luck!

It's not fun, that's for sure! Just to add to the PPers as time passes you get "stuck" less and less often. When I finally got restriction I got stuck a lot. Now I hardly ever do...you learn how to work your band, so to say. The two main things are to get to a bathroom and wait it out, until it passes and don't panic. Panic will only make it worse. Know that this too shall pass...best wishes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
