Stressed, getting stuck because of it, and vomiting!

Recommended Posts

I'm very stressed out right now in my life, with just getting into a car accident (I'm ok), depression, relationship issues and moving in with my bro and his family to get my life together.

On and off, I have anxiety and my band gets tight and I can't hold anything down, tried even ice cream and got stuck and had to stick my finger down my throat to vomit as usual to get the pain out of my chest. I'm losing weight like crazy but not the right way. I was able to eat without getting stuck a few times, when I wasn't stressed. Advice?:bored:

I noticed the same thing this week. Two day I was stressed and could not get anything down. I was able to drink Water but nothing else. I actually forgot to ask my doctor today when I went for a fill.

I too am at a loss. Hopefully someone will have some advice.

Stress wreaks havoc with my band, too. It's been really important to me to identify measures I can take to reduce stress. We can't always change our circumstances, but we CAN take care of ourselves the best way we can.

For me, exercise is critical. But it's just a piece of the puzzle. Can you find a therapist who specializes in posttraumatic stress?

Hi girls,

I just got done with this intensive outpatient program to teach people how to deal with stress and depression and it has helped, and I just saw my therapist this week, but it's not something I feel I can control right now. I'm just dealing with it until I move next week and get situated, I think things will be better.

I thought I may need a unfill and called Kaiser and my doc had to refer me to the baratric nurse and they said if things don't get better, they may need to do an endoscopy to make sure the band is in place and not slipped, but some days I can eat, and most days I can't. So, at this point, I'm just going to wait it out and see what happens when I move out and settle in. Financial issues, no car, boyfriend working on car but taking his time and I'm just stressed out to the max but trying to take it easy now and taking my time with the move and packing.

Thank you girls.

An unfill sounds like a good idea.

I understand that we can't always control the stressors in our lives--truly, I do. But can your therapist help you with techniques to help direct your response to those stressors? Does s/he use tools such as biofeedback, neurofeedback, EMDR?

Hey Girl - Hugs on your issues - IMHO you need to get some taken out - why wait - it's not going to get better

Remember eat very slowly - chew very well - tiny bite and stay away from the sliders :0).

Hope things settle down for you soon

Hugs - Janet

Agree, been there. DO NOT WAIT-GET A DEFLATE!! The tightened band is itself a stessor, which you do not need. Get a small deflate, and come back in a few weeks. I did it, It is not a forever thing. It helped a grat deal in coping with other stress.

Well, I figured if it didn't stop that I would call Kaiser back and tell them I needed an unfill, but I don't want to have another Endoscopy at this time. I'm packing and dealing with that right now.

I am going to check and see how I feel when I move in with my family to see if some of the stress subsides. I'm losing like 5 lbs a week and it's really great! But I know that I will probably gain the weight back quickly once I'm able to eat again. I probably eat less than 200 calories a day I'm guessing.

The weight is just falling off, but I know it's unhealthy this way. I feel a tightness in my chest, but I think I'm just stressed/tense. Sometimes I think I'm not eating little bites and I'm not chewing as much as I need to but I'm not sure. I have to start paying attention.

Thanks for all the love and advice.

Poma, one thing few mention, perhaps I am one of the few with the problem but do you have post nasal drip, allergies, or non-allergiv rhinitis? I do. Found the nasal drainage increased during times of stress, and contributed to the vomitting, band tightness, etc. Beside my regular antihistamines and allergy meds, i take Mucinex. For me, it makes a difference in keeping anything down. This is something My doctor and I found that worked. If you have no allergy/ sinus issues, it won't help.

Thank you all for your comments and support! I had an obstruction in my band which means I had eaten something the wrong way I guess and it swelled up and didn't end up going down, so I had a complete unfill and also went to ER, long story. They filled it back up but less than before and I'm way better now but gained 5 lbs since. Just broke up with the boyfriend and stressed that is why I'm eating through it. I know it's wrong. I'm just sad. :( Things will get better though, I know it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
