Looking for locals in Orange County.

Hi, I'm new to this support stuff, although not that new to the band. I was banded on Dec. 12, 2007. Dr. Francis is my Dr. Good choice. I live in Buena Park. Side note: my daughter had the surgery on the same day, same Dr. We are both doing well. I have lost 66 lbs. and my daughter has lost 60 lbs. We have only attended 1 support group meeting, as they are inconvienent. The Fountain Valley meetings during the week would get us home around 7:30 pm and since my husband works very early in the morning, I would not be able to see him prior to his going to bed. The Saturday meetings are in Corona/Norco area. Way too far. I made the trip once. If there are more of you out there that woudl be interested in starting a group in OC, let's get together and just do it. As for Cakegal, congratulations on taking the first step to a new you! You won't regret it.

Hi

St Joseph Hospital in Orange has support meetings every other Tuesday in the evening. Just call the St. Joseph Heritage Bariatric Center for all of the information. Support groups are IMPERATIVE to your success. I think your husband wants you to have long-term success and would be more than understanding. I will see you at the St. Joseph's meetings.

If you interested in coming to a meeting that is local just send me an email because we have put together a group of about 7 people now and meet up once a month at each others house to talk and share stories. It is more intaminte then the ones at the hospitals. Those are good for nuticion speakers or Dr. giving advice but not round table talking. We met at the park one time and brought our dogs it was really fun. So send me an email. I live in HB vikki4mymail@yahoo.com

I was thinking the same thing about Fountain Valley. It is too far for me and so is Corona/Norco. I am looking for any support group in North OC: Anaheim, Placentia, Fullerton?

Thank you to all of you for the suggestions. I will check out the St. Joseph's support group. In the meantime, I will continue to look for something in the north Orange County area. Like I said before, I'm in Buena Park.

Hi Lhess, I am right down the street from you. I live in Stanton. My sister and I get together on the weekend and walk by the Santa Ana River bed. We go in at South Streeet and walk towards the 91 fwy. It is really nice there. We were going early, but the heat gets to us. So we are going to try Sunday evening around 6. Anyone want to join us. it is a 3 to 4 mile round trip. We watch the birds, ducks and listen to the Water run. It is very cool if you like the outdoors.

Newbie here. I'm looking at having my band done by someone in LePort's office in Jan. sometime. What do they require for a pre surgery diet?

Dr. Leport's office requires that you lose a certain percentage of weight. They will let you know how much at your 1 on 1 appointment about a month before your surgery. They don't care how you do it, but they suggest Optifast because it works really well.

I decided I would do Weight Watchers to get off the 15 pounds they requested I lose. After about 3 weeks, I had not lost enough weight, so I called the office and asked for the Optifast. That took care of the remainder of the weight.

I then had to reschedule because some of my blood work came back unacceptable. When I re-did the pre-op diet 2 months later, I didn't even bother with the Weight Watchers. I just did the Optifast for 2 weeks and was just fine.

Good luck to you!

I was just banded in August by Dr. Francis in Dr. LePorts office. My insurance required a 6 mo. diet supervised by my Doctor. I actually gained 10 pounds. Dr. LePorts office never said one word about loosing weight to me and did not require any liquid diet except for the day before my surgery. I was really impressed with how the surgery went and my recovery. I've lost 22 pounds and eat pretty normally. I just had my first fill last week. It also went really well. Over all.... I'm very happy with their office and staff.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
