I am so discouraged!

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am being banded on Dec. 29th in NYC by Dr. Kurian. I have had all my pre op testing except my stress test, and now I am depressed because I have spent a year working toward this goal, and today Dr. Kurian told me it might not happen because the blood work came back with my blood sugar high. I e-mailed her and told her that I would be be cutting carbs and stepping up exercise to get the number down, and I admitted that I had been in a "last supper" mode, and that I had not exercised for a week and a half because I was sick. She told me to "cut the crap eating" and that surgery would be cancelled the day of surgery if my blood sugar was "out of control". I was devastated by the tenor of her message. I e-mailed her again assuring her that I was indeed eating low carb, and I asked her when I should start meds if my numbers did not come down (I can check daily because my husband (who is NOT overweight) is diabetic). Again, her curt reply was "cut carbs and simple sugars". Again, I replied and told her that I felt discouraged and that she should trust me that I was watching my diet, but that I do NOT want surgery cancelled so I needed an answer to the medication question. I have not heard back yet. Please, does anyone have any words of encouragement to offer me? I know that I am only one of hundreds of patients that she has, but I have been working so hard!

What was your sugar level?

That is odd as Diabetes and even Insulin Resistance (which sounds like you may have) are reasons for getting banded.

Perhaps she is concerned you will not heal well if your sugar levels stay high, then again I would ask to have a Hg A1C ran to see what you have been over the past 3 months and if it is high (5-6) ask to be put on Glucophage XR or some other Diabetic drug immediatly.

After only a day, my sugar levels went down...

This like everything else over the last year is nothing more than a hurdle. You have made your decision to do this now nothing can stand in your way. There will be more hurdles, ups and downs even after banding. You will discover this isn't a majic bullet and it takes understanding and work! Get it straight, you are over being OVERWEIGHT and right here and now it ends!! Patience will get you there. I know it hasnt been easy all year, has it? Okay so theres another hurdle to cross. You will do it!! Again and Again!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
