To fill or not to fill??

Recommended Posts

I haven't had a fill in over a year. I wanted one the last time I had an appointment (6/09) but my Dr was out (I've only been filled by my Dr) and I saw the PA. She said after a few questions NO FILL. Go home and work on the diet.

It is now a year later, I've regained A LOT and am now afraid and embarrassed to go see my Dr.

I think I will cry went I see my Dr. I was doing well before the PA shut me down. He was proud of me. She made me feel like there wasn't anything the band could do for me now. It was all up to me. Now Im, well I don't want to say a failure, but gosh what else would I be??

So do I knuckle down and try to again lose by myself or suck it up and go to the DR??

Has anyone else had to suck it up? How did that go?

You must never be afraid and embarassed to see your Dr. They are not there to judge they are there to help.make that appointment and get your journey back on track.

You are not a failure - you have lost plenty so far and once you get the help you need you will start losing again.

You have not failed. Go for your fill. It will help you get back on track.

Unless you are drinking and eating a lot of empty calories and you already have good restriction, I don't understand why you would be denied a fill. It's really unfortunate that it seems some medical professionals don't understand how much we may really depend on our bands to curb appetite, cravings, and control portions. Although you didn't expand on what your restriction level was like at the time or what your diet was like. I've heard of doctors not giving fills if you happen to gain weight and to me this is counterproductive unless you have really good restriction. All this can be very defeating to the patient. By all means try and get that fill, it could be just what you need to get back on track and stay motivated.

I would go ahead and see the doc and make sure to never make an appt. with the PA again. Go ahead and cry if you need to! Your doc knows what an emotional roller coaster we are all on! Get your fill and start experiencing some success again. If we could do this with diet alone, why would we need our bands? Good luck,

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
