HELP, I'm starting to miss food...

Recommended Posts

Hello. I am postop day 3 and feel some generalized anxiety (which I suffer from a bit anyway) at not being able to eat. I'm just having lots of negative thoughts...can anyone relate?

Thanks  Melissa, NJ

Hi,

I went through that a bit too. It was brief moments of panic that I could no longer eat my favorite foods. It passed very quickly, as I continued through my day and my small, long lasting meals, and the wonderful feeling of watching the scale go down. Just take it as it comes, and remind yourself of how incredible it will feel to be comfortable in your own skin. That food doesn't deserve your anxiety!

I've done the same things several times! My surgery was a week ago and every few days for just a split second a wave of anxiety comes over me and for a second I think "What have I done!" But then it passes and I remember what I have done. And I also remember that there are few foods (and sometimes none) that I absolutely can't ever have again. Just gotta eat em in moderation.

Exactly, something we should have been doing all along, huh? I hope that your post op goes well. Are you still on liquids? I was banded a month ago tomorrow, so Wednesday I get to begin the "regular" (in Lap Band terms) diet. I get my first fill Thursday. Very excited as I've just begun to get hungry the past couple of days. How are you doing with your hunger?

Hey there, today is my 1 month bandiversary!! It's funny that we all go through mourning over our food. I definitely began mourning food as soon as my stomach started to heal, and I still have bouts where I wonder if I should have done this. But then my hopeful side of my brain overpowers my food addicted side of my brain and I realize that I need to do this and I remind myself of my new mantra...Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!!!!! I have a long way to go, but from what I've read we will be able to eat all kinds of food, just in restriction/moderation and feel full and satisfied. My band hasn't been filled yet and I certainly am in bandster hell, but I know it will end and this implant will start to do it's job to help me. Hang in there!

Happy Bandiversary!

I'm right there with you... even in this first month when it's supposed to be the hardest, I feel so full of hope and optimism, that no amount of cravings or hunger are going to derail my determination! I wish you the best in your next month. Will you get your first fill soon?

Thanks for the good wishes. I think my first fill won't be until July 8th, at least that's when my next doc appt is. My doc is very strict with the diet phases post op. So I'm on my last week of pureed foods and on Sat I start 2 weeks of soft food. Oh the process!!! I know it will all be worth it! Good luck to you as well in your next month, Happy Bandiversary too!

I remember being very edgy and having lots of anxiety over food pre and post op. Now it doesn't bother me at all. I chewed a lot of gum during that period. I remember even snapping at my DH and that's not like me at all! I was depressed too. Now I don't worry about food any more and those feelings have passed. But it took a while...for me at least. Best wishes!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
