First Fill Tomorrow!!!

Recommended Posts

I am supposed to have my first fill tomorrow, can anyone tell me how much they usually put in the first time or is it always different? Do you usually feel any restriction with the first one? Also is it scary when you first eat after a fill with food getting stuck and sliming?

It varies by doctor on how much they put in. Some do many fills of tiny amounts and others are more aggressive. I think my first fill was 4cc, but I've seen some that only got .5.

Eating shouldn't be too scary. You'll wanna be careful for sure, but for me, I didn't get stuck/PB until I'd had the band long enough to get careless. ha ha

Best of luck to you!

I had my first fill on Tuesday and was given 3 cc's. But according to my doctor, he's fairly moderately more aggressive than some docs. I felt immediate restriction and gurgling in the throat when I drank, but now 2 days out, nothing. I go back in 3 weeks for my 2nd, so hopefully...

Good luck to you tomorrow!! Hopefully you'll get just the right amount for good restriction for you!!!! :(

How long does the gurgling last? I am so afraid that they are going to have a hard time finding the port or it will be flipped or something I have read some horror stories on here.

I just really have to make sure I chew chew chew, I have not had any bread, Pasta, or rice at all and no soda in 6 weeks so I should be ok in that area.

My 1st fill my surgeon put in 2ccs and we found that made me too tight so she took out half a cc. Same thing w/ my second fill. She put in 2ccs and when I drank the barium (she does fills under fluoro) it stopped right at my band so she took out .6. So everyone is different. :(

The gurgling, for me, lasted the first day only. As far as finding the port...my doctor had me lay on a table with my feet on the ground. She then pressed in a couple of places and it just popped up. She had no trouble finding mine.

if you are chewing like you should and staying away from the things you shouldn't have, then you should be fine!!!

Good luck and keep me up to date with your progress!!!

One more question guys THE NEEDLE!!!! I'm sweating thinking about it, is it really huge? And do all dr's give a local when doing it? I think I may pass out...LOL

I don't look at needles so I have no idea how big it is. My doctor's assistant sprays numbing medication where she is injecting the needle into the port so I don't feel a thing. The first time I had it done in the hospital and they put in 2 cc and I drank barium and nothing went down so they took out 1 cc and everything was fine. I was losing 2 lbs a week for a month, but then it slowed down to less than 1 lb every other week so two months later I had another fill. They tried putting 1/2 in but after I drank Water it felt like it was getting stuck so I ended up with just 1/4 cc and I was fine. I am on liquids for two days after the fills and have never had a problem. I have a 10 cc band and I am currently at 4.25 cc. Surgery was 1-19-10.

My doc injects lidocaine, and I didn't feel the 2nd needle at all. But I won't lie, I looked and it wasn't small. Like I said though, couldn't feel it at all!!! Don't sweat it, I'm sure it will all go fine!!! I was nervous too and realized I had nothing to be nervous about. Tell your doctor your concerns before he gives you the fill.

Had my first fill today. The doc found the port in less than a minute. He didn't numb it at all- It hurt for less than a second- 5 cc in and it was over. If you ever had dental work it hurt a lot less than the novacaine needle did.

No thank god I have never had dental work done but I do have three children one of which was csection, gall bladder removed and now the lap band.. but I am still a scaredy cat.

Ha ha, Jen, you sound like me. I thought my knees were going to buckle when I got my first fill. My doc does them standing up, he doesn't numb it first, but it doesn't hurt much. To me, it's about the same amount of pain as getting blood drawn.

I never look down though, I hate to see that thing. They leave it in you while they adjust and check your fill level, but, just like blood draws, you only feel the initial stick.

Good luck.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
