How is everyone doing?

Recommended Posts

I just read up ont he previous posts. I am thinking and praying for those who are having their surgery in the next day or two.

I was banded yesterday. I am trying to take it super easy on my liquid diet. I have not really felt hungry or full yet. I am doing my best to listen to my body and figure out what it is telling me. I have managed to get down about half of a Protein Shake this morning. My goal is to get my Protein in for the day and stay hydrated. I am trying to walk a lot! It is about to rain so I keep pacing up and down our long hallway. I am sore but overall doing good.

I am very nervous about upsetting my stomach. In a way, I am afraid of the band and just want to be very cautious!! I don't want any complications. I would love to hear how everyone else is doing!

Ashly

Hi Ashley,

My name is Julie, I was banded on 6/7/10. I'm feeling pretty good today. That first 3 days was rough, I'll admit. The gas almost killed me. I'm like you, very caution, and scared to death of this band. I was only on a liquid diet for 24 hours then on to a pureed diet for the next 2 weeks. Having a pretty hard time with that because I don't puree foods. Kinda makes me sick. So I have been really just eating things that look like they were pureed. And adding in Protein shakes, which I can't hardly stand the taste of!! ON the lookout for a good one, let me know if you find one you like.

Hey - we were banded the same day!! Lucky you only a 24hr liquid diet! I did it for about 3 days, then was able to tolerate foods of more substance. I wasn't really sore afterwards, but with the "clot shots" I look like someone kicked the crap out of me!!

Keep in touch!

Had my procedure today. Like Julie, these gas pains are rough. Hoping they'll ease up some tomorrow.

Things went very smoothly during my procedure, but I almost had to get cath'd before I could check out. I managed to void there at the very end (last one in the outpatient recovery for the day!) and saved myself from that. LOL!

Today was just more Clear liquids, will start on my Protein tomorrow. I have a clear liquids+protein diet for a week, then I can add milk/soymilk to it the following week. pureed on week 3-4, Mushies week 5-6. I can likely start introducing some solids in those last two weeks.

Here we go!!

Congrats on your surgery! I'm only 8 days out but it feels like an eternity since I felt the way you feel now. Just hang in there, things get a lot better after days 4 or so.

I had my first post-op visit today. I told myself I wasn't going to be a scale jumper and get on every 5 minutes to see if anything was happeneing - so at my visit, I got on the scale and it said I was down 14lbs since my surgery on 6/7/10.. I was so excited!!

OMG Congrats! That is awesome! I have my first post op visit this coming Friday. I've tried not to be a scale jumper too but know I have lost some because my clothes are fitting a bit loose. Can't wait to see what his scale says.

Great work!!

Woo, I hope so! My incision area isn't too bad, I just keep walking and walking hoping the gas will get outta here!

Someone reminded me yesterday about a pair of concert tickets that I had purchased months ago --- the show is this Saturday night --- and I had completely forgotten that I'd bought tickets!!

I don't want to miss it, but somehow I don't think I'll be up for dancing the night away. heheh

Here's hoping that most of the gas pains are gone by then. The pain meds manage the incision/abdominal pain very well, so I'm not worried about that.

Hope all the other June Bugs are doing great today!

Banded on Monday and feeling pretty good overall. Very sore but the gas pains aren't too bad.

Like everyone else, been struggling to get in the Protein shakes and liquids, but keep plugging away at it each day.

I'm on full liquids until Tuesday and then move onto pureed foods (anything that is the consistency of applesauce.) I see my surgeon and the nutritionist on the 30th and will find out about diet advancement then.

Congrats to those on the losers bench and good luck to those waiting for the big day!

Hi, I was banded on June 17th, in Norfolk, VA with Dr. Fontana. I have a week on full liquids and then on to mushies for two weeks.

I have some great Protein shake receipes for those on full liquids and they both have about 25 grams of Protein (depends on the Protein powder you use, I have Jillian Michaels).

vanilla Cherry

1 cup skim milk

1/2 cup fat free vanilla yogurt

9 frozen cherries

1 scoop of vanilla Protein Powder

PULSE IN THE BLENDER

Orange banana

1 cup skim milk

1/2 cup fat free vanilla yogurt

1/2 cup mandarian oranges

1/2 banana

1 scoop of vanilla protein powder

1/4 cup crushed ice

PULSE IN THE BLENDER

I can't believe how much I am looking forward to mushies...I can't wait to have have chicken salad, fish, and "soggy" veggies...

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!

I was banded on the 15th - and yesterday was the first day I felt 'normal'.

I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing what I am with the port area. Definately sensitive, and I feel like I want to sit up straight and not slouch - because when I do the area bothers me. Does this make sense?

Who would have thought that good posture would be one of the things I'm getting out of my surgery.

I'm already on soft food - had some Halibut last night for dinner - just a tiny piece and it went down fine and filled me right up. I haven't had hunger problems at all - I won't have my first fill until July 27 - my doc doesn't put anything in the band to start with. Anyway - overall I'm feeling back to normal and looking forward to the future! Best of luck to everyone else out there!:bored:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
