Hello! My surgery is scheduled for July 30th. I completly selfpay and was hoping to find some other selfpay people either awaiting or that have had surgery. I just wanted to know how you are feeling about coming out of pocket or if you have/had any regrets with paying or any issues after surgery that caused you to have to pay even more $$.

My daughter is having her surgery this Monday and she is self Pay ( wait let me clarify that I am her self pay) She is having the surgery done in Mexico as it is more than 1/2 of what it would have cost her to go to my surgeon. She does have insurance but after 6 months of counseling, testing etc. she found out her employer (cheap ___) had put in a no weight lose surgery clause in her policy. She was so disappointed and upset that I started doing some research and found an excellent surgeon in Mexico. I can't wait until it is over, I will be a nervous wreck until she is home. I would love to give her employer the facts about preventative medicine but I know I would be wasting my time. I told her she has to elope now if she gets married, I was saving the money for her wedding! lol

I am self pay and boy isnt it a headache! i decided that i didnt want to finance i didnt want to take out loans that i would pay all myne off as i earn it week by week before the surgery rather than pay it off after. my surgery is 29th june and i cant wait for it all to be over. i am very excited but with the financial burden of it all its become stressful i wish all i had to stress about was the liquid diet but its money and surgery dates and all the other stuff that goes along with it. i have had to budget to do this and i am so sick of calculating money here and then its getting a little obsessive. But it will be all worth it in the end and im sure il never look back i just cant wait to get there :~)

I am selfpay for the surgery and was distressed after my consult with my surgeon because I thought the cost of that visit would cover some of the required medical testing. I have "cheap" self pay insurance but found out yesterday they will pay up to 2000 a day for the sleep study, EDG, EKG, etc., so i will stagger those appts as best I can. At the consult I asked about "extras" (I posted a thread similar to this yest with the breakdown of my surgical teams cost) such as a hiatal hernia discovery. My insurance does not cover weight loss surgery at all, but I was told if a hiatal hernia is discovered it is billed separately, and in that case my insurance should cover 80% since it is an inpatient procedure.

I am also self pay with no regrets at all!! A couple of things I will stress is keeps all reciepts and should be able to write it all off on your taxes. Even though you are self pay..ask the hospital to try to get pre-authorization for you stay even if it is denied. Once you have all of your reciepts..submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement. I got the EKGs, all blood work, pre-op testing etc, the anesthesia and part of the hospital bill reimbursed..they wouldn't pay for the surgery but as I mentioned they paid part of the rest which is better than nothing..plus I got a huge tax benefit. With my doctor his self pay program offers 1 year of fills (how every many you need) and requires you to see him monthly. He jokingly says "abuse him" so that is what I do and I have done remarkedly well. I was banded on 11/23/9 and have lost 92 so far. I have 34 lbs left to go. I wish you the best on your journey!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
