I got banded may 7th . I am doing ok ... i dislike the scar above my belly button it has "dissolvable stiches i guess but one is sticking out of the skin " have any of you had this problem? I have lost weight already .. : ) last time i got on the scale i had lost 25 lbs since the week before the surg ... but i havent been on a scale in 2 weeks ... oh the other thing is maybe some older bansters can answer when u suck in your stomach will ur scars always go in ?? ... its weird ... I have made so many high protien, low fat low sugar mushy foods its not funny... my mom and i think we are going to make a Mushy food cookbook which is high protien low fat and has only 0-2 sugars per meal and everyone in my family is trying my food and htey are saying this tastes goooood ... lol .. the first pic where im in black, grey and white shirt is 2 weeks after surg ... the other is srta a before pic

Hi - I was banded May 19th - today is my first day back to work and I am still sore near the port and Belly button.....and I was wondering the same thing - when I suck in my belling there is an indentation where the big scar is - hope that goes aways. I've lost 24lbs in just under a month...not to bad - but I am getting hungery more each day - can't wait for my first fill on July 7th!

Good luck

I am doing great, down almost 30 lbs since my surgery May 10. I cannot wait to get my fill next week! Since all the swelling in my stomach has gone down I can actually eat so I am more hungry with each passing day. My soreness has been gone for about 2 weeks and I am feeling great. Everyone is saying they are seeing a big difference already so that helps with my motivation to keep up the good work!

My first response, whoo hooo!

I am down about 24lbs since my surgery date of 5/3/2010. It's not been easy but well worth it. I am off all the medication I was taken before the surgery, and I feel better than I have in years.

Congrats on your success, I wish you many more.

Welcome to the losers bench!

I was banded May 13th. I have had the protruding stiches issue and I found out yesterday I have one more. I have a huge blood clot on the right side of my stomach where the right insision is. It feels like a big, hard ball. My doctor told me yesterday that it isn't dangerous and it will just desolve on its own. I am still scared knowing that there is a big balloon filled with clotted blood just sitting in my stomach. They also said that my recovery time will be a lot longer seeing as they're not sure how long it will take for it to disolve. Has anyone else had this same issue? I have only lost 11 lbs since my surgery even though I am only eating anywhere between 300 and 800 cals a day. I am wondering if the big ball of blood in my tummy is being a contributor to my slow loss???? HELP!

Steffi - I have a stitch poking out from one of my incisions, too! It drives me nuts! I cut it short, and have tried to gently pull it out, but it won't come out. And it sure doesn't seem disolvable, like it is supposed to be. Wierd!! I haven't lost any wt. in 3 weeks now. Just holding steady. For the most part, eating very healthy food, and increasing my exercise. But really, I feel almost like I have no band in. The only thing that bugs me to eat is strips of pepper. The skin, after about an hour, I think glugs up my stomach and I feel a bit nauseous. But if I cut it into diced bits, it's fine. No pain whatsoever now - yay! Go for a checkup and prob. first fill in 8 days.

I was banded on 5/19, so three weeks since surgery for me. Down about 20 lbs since surgery, which seems really quick. Ironically the last 7 lbs have been since I started eating food again (albeit soft food) and increased my calories. I also started exercising more vigorously (elliptical only for now) so that's probably what has kept me losing.

Definitely have the same issue with a stitch sticking out from the port incision. I cut it down but yeah, it does not appear to be "dissolving" and it's a bit itchy. But the incision is healing so I just have to not touch it. And yes, it does seem indented somehow when I suck in my stomach. The other incisions look like they'll disappear without any scar but the port incision I doubt will do that, and the indent seems like it's probably not going to go away. My doc said they all look normal, so I take his word for it.

Jillsko, sorry to hear about the clot, but it sounds like it's not going to adversely affect your health, so that's good. If there's one thing I've learned from this site, it's that no two people heal or lose weight the same way or at the same rate - there are just too many individual factors involved. Keep the faith and follow your doc's orders and you'll be fine I'm sure.

Great to be post-band though, eh? Especially lately as I've ramped up my exercise and gotten back on real food, and as my healing has continued, I'm feeling just really thankful and really glad I did this. I am excited for the destination, but I am working hard to keep it in the day and to concentrate on the journey.:tongue2:

I was banded May 10th. The first few weeks were great and I felt no hunger. Now is another story, I am hungry all the time. I had lost 18 lbs but have since gained 1 lb back. I went a little crazy with ice cream one day:frown:. Anyway, I am back on track and cannot wait for my first fill on June 14th!! I am definintely looking forward to feeling restriction again. Good Luck to all!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
