Driving myself 3 hours to my surgery

Recommended Posts

Anyone else have to drive themselves? I plan on spending the night at the hospital and then getting a hotel room the next night, then driving home. I hope I'm up to it. Good luck to anyone else having surgery today.

Hi,

I have my surgery on Saturday 29th May. I am being driven to the hospital bt a driver from the Hospital but still is a 2 and a half hour drive!

I am in England and am having it done privatley as I heard that there is a 28 yr waiting list on the NHS (national health service)

I hope all goes well for you. Good luck with the drive. When do you have yours done then?

xx :o

My surgeon would not have allowed me to do it that way.

There had to be someone there at the hospital with me (family member) to state they would do all the driving and that they would stay with me at all times during the first 24 hours after surgery. I did stay at a hotel that first night, but not alone.

oh, I see, you will be at the hosp. for the first night. I think that drive home will still suck if it's very long. Good luck with the surgery.

My surgeon---and the hospital--would not have discharged me without a driver.

There is NO way you will be able to do this safely.

I had mine put on 2 days ago and could not imagine driving OR going back to work at this point! I'm not supposed to drive for 10 days and after 1 night in the hospital, I fell asleep in the car on the way home!

I had an overnight stay in the hospital and I had a driver to and from. I did however drive the same day I was discharged and had no problems with it. Just be sure you arent on any pain meds when you do attempt it.

I didnt have to drive myelft back home. My wife got a friend to drive, since she just got off the graveyard shift at the hospital we work at. Although I probably could have made the drive myself, I'm glad I didnt have to.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
