BMI change made me all giddy...

Recommended Posts

I know stupid, right?

It went from "extremely obese" at 260lbs with a 42 BMI to now just "obese" at 219lbs with a 35 BMI. It might not be a lot, but I am stoked at 41lbs in the past 4 months. I have steadily lost about 10lbs a month but I have ate pretty clean, allowing mistakes, and using the YMCA to it's fullest advantage, that and walking the crazy dog.

Onward to the "overweight" range. Obsese is such an ugly word, although I was and still am stinking cute:)

Side note: The first pic is New Year's Eve, 8 days before surgery. The 2nd pic is my husband and I on May 8, 2010 at the prom for the school that I teach at. We are at the Derby Museum.

No! I know what you are talking about! I started out as 'morbidly obese' ... now I am on the low end of 'severely obese' and am closing in on merely 'obese' ... yeah, I'm proud. LOL

I sometimes wonder if it's my imagination that 'obese' is a nasty sounding word. It just sounds like a slap in the face when I hear it. By comparison, 'overweight' sounds downright attractive. Sigh.

Thank you all for your replies. Every pound is a victory for me regaining my health and my control over food. This LAP-BAND® really hasn't been that hard. I 've really not noticed it that much, except when I order out and waste my money. I am starting to figure it out though more. appetizers and stuff I could care less about saving.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
