I'm just not hungry...at all.

Recommended Posts

So, I'm on day 10 post banding and I started mushies today. This morning, I had about 5 small spoonfuls of yogurt (maybe 1 oz?) and after work, I had 1/4 cup of applesauce. So, grand total today, I've had less than 100 calories.

I know we're not supposed to eat if we're not hungry, but I'm thinking this is a bit excessive. Should I drink some juice or something just to up my calories? I've been drinking Water all day, so it's not like I can't keep anything down. Eating just doesn't appeal to me.

:tongue2:

I'm still waiting to be banded but when I am I hope I have that problem.

I'm afraid of being in "bandster Hell" as many refer to, not having any restriction and being hungry as heck trying to fight my cravings.

Maybe you should try some Protein shakes to supplement your eating. I know eating too little can be a problem too.

Sorry not much help. I just envy you at this point.

Im a week post op and started mushies and today was the first day I got hungry. But for the last 3 weeks I have not been and I had to force myself to eat. You need to drink a Protein shake at least! Your body is holding on to all you have and you wont lose weight that way, not to mention not eating is bad for you.

You are prolly still swollen, I am not in bandster hell. I cant eat much before I get full, Im just hoping the scale shows the pounds dropping!

Thanks, Nean. That's what I did. Just drained my first Protein shake of the day and I'll squeeze in another before bed.

I've decided I'm just going to eat every few hours, hungry or not, and just keep my calories under 1000. Should be pretty easy to do since it doesn't take much to fill me up. LOL

I'm mostly worried about not having the energy to workout. I know I need to do that to lose weight from previous experience. I worked in my flower beds yesterday and it sapped every ounce of energy from me and I actually had to sleep it off. I need to fix it!

Just whatever you eat try to make sure its filled with protein! Im hoping to start my work outs next week.. idk if im ready lol

Agree with Nean here.

It's important for you to get calories simply for energy, and to get Protein especially. Protein is the stuff that will help you lose fat instead of muscle, it helps your wounds heal and it helps you build new tissue.

There are hundreds of Protein shake recipes on here, and lots of varieties to choose from. Someone recommended "Synthrax Nectars" to me and I really like it (I use the chocolate Truffle flavor). They have it at the Vitamin Shoppe.

If you are sick of shakes or chocolate/vanilla, I've found that Crystal Light tea and unflavored Protein powder are a pretty decent combo. I use something called "Any Whey" that's available at GNC. One scoop of that and some Crystal light with some cold Water and ice cubes is actually pretty refreshing and it's less of a "meal" than a thicker Protein Shake. It was somewhat hot here today and I had a couple of those and got my protein in pretty easily.

Ok, enough advice outta me - good luck!

I know what you mean, I was banded on April 28th and after moving to mushies I have no appetite either. I do try to stay on a schedule with eating though. I am looking forward to my first fill.

Thanks for the advice everybody. I'm going to shoot for at least 2 Protein shakes a day. I don't mind them. Actually, I've gotten to kind of enjoy them. Is that wrong of me? LOL

As for eating my mushies, I'll just schedule it and eat what I can. I really don't want to get sick, so eating when I'm not hungry scares the dickens outta me, but I'll see how it goes.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
