Let's talk nausea...

Recommended Posts

I hate nothing more in life (almost) that being nauseas. One of my fears, as irrational as it may be, is that I'll spend a lot of time post-op suffering from nausea.

So, did you have nausea after your surgery?

How soon after and for how long?

Did it get better as you healed or is it something that just happens post-lap-band?

What causes your nausea? When you're nauseas, do you vomit?

Am I just being irrational? lol

Okay, my Dr. Gave me a pill to take on the way to hosp for nausea. I was not sick at all just thirsty! The lady next to me in the room was sick. I don't remember hearing her throw-up but she sure sounded like she wanted to. By the time we checked out the next day she seemed better at least she wasn't being as rude. She still didn't look 100% but said she felt better. I think if she had wined less and walked more she would have felt better. Walking really helped even when you didn't want to. Don't worry to much about it, it shouldn't last to long if you do.

Not even a moment's worth of nausea, for me. I was given anti-nausea meds preop, and had no problem at all---or since--with nausea.

I've had a handful of episodes of vomiting since surgery, and even with those, there was no nausea. (Vomiting is completely different with a band; something needs to come up, and it does---encased in mucus, with no bile or stomach acid at all. Much less gross than before!)

If you do experience nausea, there are great meds to treat it now--you will not be made to suffer!

I had surgery 6 days ago and had no nausea at all. My doctor also gave me an anti nausea medicine before surgery and I woke up totally looped and really thirsty but no nausea.

I am like you, I would rather run fever with body aches for a week than throw up even once.

So far so good. No nausea at all. Haven't used any of the "suppositories" thank God. I hope you have a similar experience. It helps with recovery to not feel like your going to puke the entire time.

Good Luck!

Lisa

I have only been banded for a month but not been nauseas at all. I do however get very sick and nauseas from anesthesia, so preop I made sure to let the anesthesiologist know. He placed a scopalamine patch behind my ear. Post op, as soon as I felt the slightest wave of nausea I let my nurse know so I could get my phenergan as soon as it was due.

My nursing staff was superb. They did not take long to administer any meds when I let them know I had the need. There is no need for you to feel nauseas :smile2: or be in pain  after your banding, so speak up when you feel it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
