what happens when food gets stuck?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I'm really sorry to bother you again, but I had another question. I was reading some posts about things getting stuck. How does that happen. If you eat really small pieces does it still happen? How do you get it out? Oh yeah...what is "restriction"? I've been seeing this word alot in posts. Thanks guys!

i would suggest using the serach option to find various different definitions for both as its different for everyone to some degree

restriction- this is for me the point where i can eat right and sustain fullness until just before time for my next meal. It restricts how much I eat so I keep the amount of food eaten in check

stuck -

well there are two versions

version 1 - pbing as its called here - productive burp this is where food gets 'stuck' an can't go down so your mouth produces more saliva and you usually have a mini vomit - it comes from your top stomach (above band) usually slime, thick slaiva and a piece of food

version 2 - i call vomit this is where it is much more foreceful and comes from top and bottom stomach - for me it was brocoli getting stuck in the hole between the two tummys. Its scray (no lie there) but its a quick reminder to eat right and chew, chew, chew this version is the one most at risk of damaging your band

Getting stuck feels 2 ways for me: 1- tightness in my chest and 2- the feeling like something is stuck in my throat. The chest tightness is the worst, you think you're having a heart attack. Small bites and chew chew chew yes help alot, but sometimes we forget or it's just the texture of the food after your teeth have mangled it. Restriction: this is a satisfied feeling...one more bite at this point and you may find yourself sick/pb-ing. Listening to your body is difficult at times with restriction because at times your band is tighter or looser (for me I'm tight in the a.m) an depending on the food you may be able to consume more or less than 4oz of the given food. Hope this helps

It can happen alot if you are too tight. Once you figure out your perfect restriction, not so bad. You will figure the things you can and cannot eat. Right now I can not eat any meat, but fish is okay.

No, not a lot. I have only gotten sick once in 3 months and stuck maybe 3 times. You just have to listen to your body and stop when you're full and don't force foods just because you want them. Being honest with your dr when you go for fills is also important. I always suggest a food journal. Hope this helps

Thanks guys! I have been writing down everything I eat since October, so this shouldn't be too hard. Have a nice weekend!

food getting stuck is 100% preventable. If you eat the correct size you will not get stuck. Now that bveing said I seem to forget this or eat too quickly and get stuck about once a month, compleatly my fault but the pain reminds me to eat slower and correct sizes. follow your Dr.s rules and you will have great sucess

I had my first PB episode yesterday. It scared the absolute crap out of me! DH is out of town and my seven-year-old was looking at me with eyes the size of golf balls. It was COMPLETELY preventable. I was eating, not paying attention and fell into old habits of just the cursory chew + swallow without thinking. What a wake-up call! Slowing down is a lesson I must still master!

Thanks guys! I hope to not experience this, but I'm sure I will at some point. LOL NewMeComing! I was picturing your seven year old looking at you with "eyes the size of golf balls". I have a six year old niece who is my best friend and I can't even imagine how she would react if something like that happened in front of her. Thank you so much! Good luck in your journey!

I don't know if it works or not but I heard you can put meat tenderizer in warm Water and sip on it and this helps with food that is stuck.

:) I had surgery on 5/22/10 have not had a problem with food getting stuck. I have not had my first fill as yet so I am starting to feel some hunger now that my stomach is healing. Once I get my first fill then I will have restriction and won't feel the hunger anymore. Hope that helps you undersrand restriction, good luck on your weight loss

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
