Weight-loss after first fill?

Recommended Posts

How many of you folks saw a marked improvement in weight loss after only your first fill? If not, when did it start to happen for you? I have my first fill on Monday. I am very excited, but I am trying to temper my expectations. I am just wondering if I can get a feel for the norm here. Care to share your experience? THANKS!

I was banded 9/16/05

1st fill 10/18 1.3cc

2nd fill 10/24 1.8cc

3rd fill 11/1 2.2cc

4th fill 11/15 3.0cc

I started filling a small amount of restriction after my 3rd (I couldn't eat bread), but now after my 4th just a couple of bites and I'm done! I literally had 4 pieces of general chicken yesterday for lunch (I should have quit at 3) and didn't eat anything else til today at lunch. As far as weight loss, well I've been trying really hard not to get discouraged, but I've only lost 7.5 lbs since my surgery........but I know with this fill, I'm on my way!!!!

Good luck

The fist fill is a good reminder to help you stay focused on eating well and in smaller portions. You will want to test the band to determine the restriction you may be experiancing; Be carful though, as you do not want to get sick.

You may or may not loose weight after your first fill, as it can take many fills untill you get to the sweet spot. Just make sure you plan a follow up visit within the next month of your fill so you can go back if needed. (your doctor should automatically do this.) It may be that your first fill will be the one that gives you the restriction you need, but if it is not, do not get discouraged, it's just part of the process.

I have had four fills and do feel restriction, but feel I need more so I am going back on Monday. I have 8cc in a 10cc vanguard band. If you have a large band like this you will likely have a first fill of 3cc or more.

Take Care,

Tod

I was also banded on 9/16/05 and had my 1st fill on 11/3/05. I felt some restriction for about 3 days but then was able to eat as I did pre-fill and didn't lose a single pound. I had my 2nd fill this past Tuesday, 11/15/05 and have lost 3 pounds. I now know what good restriction feels like.

See my stats below for current weight loss.

wow. looks like the first fill isn't much to get excited about. is it that dr's are usually so conservative with the first one? i still just don't understand how it works exactly. are they striving for the least possible mount of restriction needed you think? man, i just want to get started losing so badly. well, at least stop gaining. yipes!

I was banded on 9/23 and got my first fill on 10/24 and I lost 18 pounds between those two dates. I weighed 230 the day I got my fill and I am now down to 221, so that is a loss of another 9 pounds in less than 4 weeks which beats the average. I am going in for another fill on 11/22, just because I have a VG and I don't really have any restriction. I rely heavily on dieting to achieve my results. Everybody is different and the statement "results can vary" for sure applies here. Best of luck with that first fill Angel. :-)

My first fill actually did nothing for me. I have a 4 cc band and had a 1 cc fill and could eat more I think after the fill, just stay on top of them and if you have to get one 2 weeks later do it if there is no restriction yet. I hope you're one of the lucky ones that only needs one fill and can feel full. Good luck.

My doctor is less conservitive then most, from what I can tell, as he is a bit more agresive, wanting to get you filled quickly. You may ask your doctor if he could be a bit more agresive on your first fill? I supose your doctor will have his own ideas as to what is best, and because of this.. you will likely have to go with his intinks. Take care.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
