How often are you supposed to get fills?

Recommended Posts

I have never quite understood this. How often are you supposed to get fills? Is it every other month, every month, what?

I had my surgery Dec. 3, 2009, and I have only lost 30 pounds. I don't feel any restriction at all, though I certainly do not eat as much as I used to.

Now that it isn't raining so much (the Pacific NW sucks as far as weather 8 or 9 months out of the year), I can get out and walk, but gee I had hoped for better results than this. I still have over 100 pounds to lose.

you are doing great. I was banded 9-28-09, had my first fill 1 month out and have had fills every month since. I am at 9 cc's in a 10 cc band and still haven't hit that "sweet spot" everyone talks about. I've lost 16 lbs so far so you are doing much better than I am at your weight loss. It is slow and from researching you should lose 1-2 lbs a week so I think you are on track. I just didn't take my band seriously and thought that the weight would just start falling off like it does with gastric bypass patients but it doesn't. Just hang in there and if you are getting hungry soon after you eat, you need a fill. I go about 3-4 hours in between meals. I eat 3 meals a day with 1 extra Protein Shake as a snack. Good luck to you.:)

I was banded Nov 2008. I just got my second fill. the first was about a month out. I asked for this one because my weight loss was ony 1/2 pound in the last 6 months and I've been humgry lately. Sounds like you're doing well with your loss and the exercise is really the key to fast results.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
