I think the concept of a diet is the wrong way to go into this. Have you already started your healthy eatting journey?

The thing that I always suggest to people is the "perimeter diet." Avoid the aisles in the grocery store. If you buy your food from the perimeter you are going to be purchasing fresh, unprocessed foods that are very filling. The main rule of thumb at each meal is lean Protein, deep colorful vegetables and complex carbs (fruit/grain).

I agree - skip the idea of a diet. Learn what eating well means (IE: no fast food- the corners of the supermarket), and do it 95% of the time. Learn what a portion looks like so you can "adjust your eyes" . Good luck and remember its diets that helped get us all overweight to begin with!

i was also told not to think of post-surgery as "dieting" when i asked if it would be okay to join WW after surgery.

they consider it a lifestyle change. eating healthy, low fat, high Protein foods since you won't be able to each a lot of anything.

always eat your Protein first (so lots of chicken, turkey, fish/seafood). if still hungry add in a veggie. some people can tolerate red meat but i'm not one of them. most of us can't eat bread and you should stay away from Pasta (or carbs in general).

hope that helps!

Hi!

Congratulations on your new life, :o one thing you need to remember you are healing and that is the number one priority. Yes you will loose weight but you will gain it, and that is ok so don't be hard on yourself just go with the flow. As far as exercise walking is good during post op, but any other form wait till 6 weeks this includes the weights. From what I understand if you work out your core during recovery you can damage the hose that goes from your port to your band, it can become detached. So take it easy and pamper yourself!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
