Surgistrips on Incisions?

Recommended Posts

Doctor said I should not take off (don't want to right now), and should wait until they fall off. How long did it take for yours to come off? Considering they are starting to itch, I would think that is a sign that they are healing.

Any advice or information that you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Mine fell off for the most part after about the fifth day of showering, although I did have a bit of a Water trap on my largest incision area. That one was pulled off in my surgeons office 12 days after surgery--it wasn't infected, but the moisture inhibited healing.

Bout a week for me! They'll come off in their own time just don't pick at it.

Leave'em on! I'm a new bandster AND Same Day Surgery/Recovery room nurse. You CAN trim the ends as they pull away but that's all!

my doc had me pull off mine at the one week point I had no sutures underneath though because glued that incision. I only had one entry point...the other of course was the port. The bandaging on the port I pulled off, under the nurses advice on like day 3. I was starting to get a rash because of the adhesive.

I would like some assistance with incisions as well. I had dermabond on all of my mine. On the port incision he also placed a actual watertight bandage which was removed on day 5.

All of my incisions appear to be scabbed and raised, dark blood in color. When I left the hospital multiple people said they look fine.

The port incision, once the dressing was removed is far more raised and lighter in color. It lays right on a crease in my belly fat. The area around it is swollen but not warm to touch or discolored so I do not think it is infected.

My concern is that the raised, deformed area, may not heal and will prevent port access. I cannot easily feel my port under the inicision.

Anybody feel I have cause for concern? I may just be worrying myself again over nothing.

Don't worry. The port is usually a little above or below the incision. The scar won't get in the way.

It's common not to be able to feel the port at first. It becomes more prominent as you lose weight.

I promise, your doctor will be able to find it for a fill!

I was banded 3 weeks ago. My port incision seems to be taking the longest to heal also. no infection. I had to have some saline removed from my band last week. I didnt realize my Dr put 1cc in at the time the band was placed. I started having trouble with phase II of the post op diet. Better now since Fluid is removed. HOWEVER, he did have a difficult time finding the port Because there is still scar tissue there. I wont lie..It hurt!! I am hoping next fill will be better. BUT I havent felt this good in years. Down 22 lbs and tons of energy!

I was told to let them fall off on their own... I also used to work on a surgical floor in the hospital and we NEVER took steri strips off unless there was a reaction or the doc wanted em off for some reason.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
