Hello all. I am getting banded on May 17th 2010. I am sooooo scared ... HELP!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Dana, I had to have my Galbladder removed 3/31/10 be fore my July 7th Surgery date. So 2 operations in 3 months.. Not my idea of fun but, needed to be done. I was very uncomfortable for 5 days. I took the pain pills!! I was back in "Fighting Form" in 2 weeks. I'm 60 so you should bounce back much faster than an old F-rt like me.:w00t:!! It's amazing how fast you bounce back. Good Luck!! Carol D'

Don't be scared, be happy, you'll soon see how smoothly everything will work out. I was admitted at 6:30 am & home by 11:30 am with no complications! I'm excited for you! Congrats!!!

Your regular doctor can usually give you something for nerves before the surgery. I usually ask for about 4 or 5 nights of sleeping pills to get plenty of rest before surgery. I've had more surgeries than I care to remember. 5 were back surgeries. I'm kind of an oddball. I actually like going under. Believe me, if the doctors had any thoughts that there would be any problems, you would not be going to surgery! Trust them, they really do know what they are doing.

I was nervous the first time I was put under, and I don't want to say "its no big deal" because I dont want to discount your fear, but it's really easy... I didn't even feel myself drifting out, I was awake one second, and coming out of anesthesia the next (it quite literally feels like you blinked and are suddenly groggy, and a little stoned).

If you are SO terrified, you might want to talk to your doctor about waiting another week or two, or seeing a hypnotist to relax...try calling for 'emergency' appointments with a REAL hypnotherapist- they work! I know we all want the surgery ASAP, but if you get yourself all worked up and stressed out, then you may end up too tired to let your body recover.

Best of luck! Just try to breathe deep and stay focused on the outcome: you're getting banded.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
