Fill issues and bruising?

Recommended Posts

This is my first post here! I've been lurking and reading a while and just wanted to know if anyone else had these same issues. I was banded 3/15 and had my first fill (3.5cc) 4/14. By 4/17, I was vomiting up everything, including Water. The Dr completely unfilled my band. I'm planning on going back in in a few weeks for a refill, but I'm worried! Has anyone else had a "normal" amout put into their band and reacted like this? Also, is it abnormal to bruise up after having a fill? I got a huge half-dollar sized bruise over the port site right after the fill, and now, more than two weeks later, it's (finally!) beginning to fade. Should I expect this bruising after every fill?

I was banded 3.12 and have had two fills. No vomitting although had my first stuck episode, post fill, today. YUCK. I did get a bruise after both fills..about the size of a quarter and I am not really a bruiser.

Good luck!

oh and if it helps, my first fill was like 2.1 and the second about 1.3. I had about 1 from my surgery as well. 3.5 might have been to much for you to start with maybe...especially if you had a mini fill with your surgery.

You probably got blood thinners when you were banded. Thinners have a long residence time in the body, and you can expect things like extra bruising and bleeding gums when you brush your teeth for a couple of months after surgery. I was told to avoid the dentist for three months unless you absolutely had to go because of the lingering effects of the thinners.

You really dont know how you are going to react to fills or how many fills you will need until you start having them. Some people are way more sensitive than others and you get more and more sensitive to tiny amounts the more restriction you have, too. Thus, there is no "normal" amount of fill.

What you had was too much for you at this time, that's all. You might be still swollen a bit from surgery (it lasted 12 weeks for me) or you might just not need a lot of fill for good restriction OR you might be someone who swells a bit after fills and has to proceed cautiously.

I'd bet your doctor will give you a bit less when you do get that fill back and see how you go from there.

About the bruising, I have had several fills. Sometimes I have no bruising at all, but my last fill was 2 days ago, and my bruise is still the size of a half dollar. Just depends for me. Sorry about you being too tight, I've been there, and it sucks! Good luck with getting more fills in the future!

I get a silver dollar sized bruise every time I get a fill. They last 2-3 weeks--usually go away just in time for the next fill!

Did get the novacaine to numb it before getting the fill? If so, I was told thats what causes the brusing. Depending on the amount used...is how big the bruising is...

I had brusing w/ my 3 fills...and asked the question on why?

No, I got no novacaine! Are they supposed to numb you before fills???? I wished they had numbed me before they emptied my band after the bad reaction. They had to put the needle back through the huge bruise, and I was screaming.

They give you the option where I go.....that was the nurses reason for mine. LOL. So I guess its not true! LOL.

I'm sorry...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
