fepblue?? BCBS Federal?

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is REbecca. I have a BMI of 37 with high cholesterol, Gerd, Anxiety, and Depression. I know that my insurance does not require a 6 month preop. I have already been to the seminar and meet with my surgeon tommorrow. My issue is that I do not have proof that ive been above 35 BMI for the past five years. I have been up and down and all around. If i go back 9 years i had a BMI of 39 but then lost and gained lost and gained. Has anyone had this issue and if so what was the outcome of insurance approval?? Any input would be great. Im really nervous about this whole approval process.

Becca,

Have you possibly been to the OB/GYN where they have weighed you? What about old paperwork from weight watchers or something like that? Just trying to help.

Good Luck!

I dont have anything from Weight Watchers i dont think...that would be good if i had kept that as well. I do have possibly some records from my OBGYN that states my weight. which would be good. Im have a long history of being over 35 bmi just not 5 consecutive years i dont think. Im hoping there is some way around this and things will work out. I do hear that BCBS Federal is one of the fastest and easiest insurance companies for approval. But i will definitely not give up on this..Ill keep going till i get approved. Thanks for the input. I just worry too much about not being approved..im making myself sick over it! :scared2:

Hi Becca,

I have BC/BS Federal Employees insurance and they approved my surgery pretty quickly once all the info from the doctor, psych, diatrician, and lab work was submitted to them.

I was banded on July 27,2009 and am so glad I have the band. I feel much, much better physically and mentally!!

I LOVE my band!

I am sure you will be approved very soon. Best of luck to you! Let us know when you get approved.

Hey Becca29,

What happened with insurance? Were you able to get your surgery? I'm in the same boat. I currently have a 40 BMI with high cholesterol, but for the past 5 years my weight has been up and down. My BMI was not above 40 until just recently and sometimes it even got below 35 over the past five years. So, does BC/BS Federal just care about a history of BMI over 35, not 40? I'm anxious to hear how things turned out for you. Do you have basic or standard?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
