I weighed 237 yesterday at the DR's office.

For my height and bone structure my surgeon said that my ideal weight is 125 I have to weigh 250 to get approved by my insurance and we can not afford it otherwise.

So, Do I pack on the 13lbs or do I pack up and go home and give up?

honestly i say do a combo of things. first go to another doctor and tell him you are an inch or two shorter then you are then you wont have as much to gain to meet your BMI requirement. I am not usually a fan of gaining to get surgery, but you are very close and 237 is a very unhealthy weight. it's what i started at so I know where you are coming from. I am 5'5.5" but i jsut said I was 5'4"....................ended up being private pay anyway so id didnt really matter much, but that loss of an inch put me at the right bmi zone

You can also try putting on ankle weights on the day of your official weigh in for insurance requirements.

I have craft weights I was thinking of putting in my bra.

I just don't want to get my husband in trouble for doing it. (We're military..)

I could say I'm 5'1 but i don't know how much shorter I could say.

Just be really careful if you do start to put a little bit of weight on for it. I was 240 and needed to be 250 for my height...and so I thought I'd gain a little weight. Weeellll...that didn't work so well because I didn't monitor it well and I gained about 20#! Whoops.

As to height/weight...my surgeon measured my height. There was no lying for me.

Some are now asking for proof of weight history, so gaining quickly to qualify may or may not work. I think that is more a function of insurance companies than surgeons, though.

I only know a little bit about the military requirements, but if you have a comorbidity, they'll accept 100 lbs overweight. Do you?

1. The patient is 100 pounds over the ideal weight for height and bone structure and

has one of these associated medical conditions: diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cholecystitis,

narcolepsy, Pickwickian syndrome (and other severe respiratory diseases), hypothalamic

disorders and severe arthritis of the weight-bearing joints.

Find out ALL the details from your insurance company regarding bariatric surgery. Your weight may be approved IF you have other co-morbidities. You'll need to know it anyway. I started out at 5'4, 244 and got it done through building a case based on other health related issues. It wasn't easy but documdent everything. Don't add on the additional weight for real, you'll be expected to loose some pre op anyway, right?

No, I don't.

But if you're twice your ideal weight then they'll do it.

It's either 100 and comorbid or 200% your weight.

I'm 240sh and my "ideal" weight per my DR is 125.. So I need to be 250

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
