Hi everyone...Want to get the Lap-Band.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm here becuase I have researched and checked out this wonderful website on more information. I have also researched other websites and the Lap-Band website. I have research what doctor I would want the surgery with and I have gone to a seminar to get some questions answered.

I decided to look into Lap-Band surgery about a month ago. I have dieted, exercised, and everything you can think of. I have actually maintained pretty well in the last two years but I have started to gain it again in the recent 3-4 months. It makes me depressed and my health does not get any better. I have a weird condition called Pars Planitis and it's inflammation in the eyes. This causes for me to loose my vision and eventually I can go completely blind. I have been fighting this for over 4 years now. The doctor has had me on Prednisone for over 4 years and on Methotraxate for 3 years, I just got it changed to Cellcept and they are finally trying to ween me off the Prednisone. Unfortunately this has caused me to gain even more weight than I already had.

I have always been fat, pictures state that I have never really been skinny in any period of my life. I am currently 28 years old and would love to get a hold of my life. I have always had asthma and recently it's been acting up. I also have lower back pains and it has been like that for the past two years. I also have trouble standing for long periods of time, my feet kill me. I'm currenly weighing 235lbs and would like to be in a healthy weight for my size. I'm 5'2 1/2, I'm really short for a woman.

I believe that the eye condition, my recent act of asthma, my lower back pains, and my feet pain would go away if I was at a healthy weight. I also snore! I never use to snore when I was weighing 30lbs less, now I do and I think that is affecting my sleep too! I'm always tired and sleepy.

So that is why I decided that I needed a little bit of extra help. I don't have a problem being active and exercising and I still try to do that every so often and love outdoor sports. I'm trying to go play tennis once again, I stopped a couple months back because my back was acting up. I also love swimming at the pool and beach when summer is here so I'll be taking that up too. My problem has always been eating, I dont get full with little amounts. I did the Jenny Craig and it was great, I did it for 1 1/2 years and lost over 40lbs but I was always hungry..it was never enough. I was always torturing myself for that period of time. It was very tough but I did like is that I learned to eat healthier and to exercise more often. I know I would do great on the Lap-Band.

I checked to see if I was elligable through my insurance but I'm not. I tried getting a loan for the surgery but I was denied (too much on school loans and my current car) so I can't afford to get the surgery right now. I have done the math and I'll be able to get it done in 11 months or so. So for now I'll be checking the website out and see how everyone is doing. Get some insight on everything I can think of. I'll be making an appointment with two doctors by January of 2011. I want to get my surgery by April if not May.

Hope to see you around.

Sincerely,

Zachy

Good luck to you! It sounds like you've come to the right decision on the LapBand, based on the story you've told. I'm almost 4 months out from my surgery now and am loving the results! I'm 29, and wanted to get this weight thing under control (or at least on the way to that!) before I hit 30 in August of this year. Obesity-related illnesses run rampant in my dad's side of the family, and I didn't want to be another statistic!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
