How long post-op was your first fill?

Recommended Posts

I just finished my pre-op nutrition class, and don’t have a dat6e yet, but getting closer.

It sounded as if at my practice (U-Mich) I may not get a fill until 16 WEEKS after surgery.

The dietician (who may be confused—god I hope she is)said there’s a 2-week post-op, then a 2 month post-op, THEN 4 weeks after that is the first fill. What?!?

No wonder they say thier lap-band® patients are "unhappy" and push folks to RnY.

6 weeks for first fill (mine was 2.5cc in a 10cc band). My second fill is scheduled for 6 weeks after my first. I have heard a ton of different time frames written on these boards. Good Luck! Having the lap band is the best thing that I have ever done. Yes it is hard work, but I am SO happy

Surgery 3/5/10 350lb

Current 4/23/10 318lb (-32lb in 7 weeks)

I went almost 8 months without my first fill...for some people, just having the band around the stomach gives them restriction. I have now been banded a year and just got my 2nd fill a week ago.. I'm now 45 lbs from goal..... My doc says " if it ain't broke don't fix it "

so if your losing weight I wouldn't get a fill... Wait untill you really need one.

Mine is going to be about 8 weeks. But I had my surgery in Mexico, and had to decide if I wanted to pay $2600 (not sure if my ins will cover it) for an edg, or go through Fill Centers USA and not do the Flouro.... Soooo I've decided to go through Fill Centers... and the closest time I could get was next week.

Mine was also 6 weeks after my surgery and that is the norm... I think. My first week after surgery I wasn't hungry at all... The second week I was hungry all the time. The 3rd week I switched from Clear Liquids to full liquids... and that helped a little. The 5th week I switched to high protein/low carb... then at 6 weeks after surgery, i had my first fill which was 4cc. I feel great and keep losing weight so like JuJuvee said... If it ain't broke don't fix it. Besides the time goes by pretty quickly.

Thank you so much, Kelli... You are the first one to tell me that I've inspired you... It tastes good, being an inspiration... Better than chocolate... Lol... I appreciate your comments about my blog. I wasn't sure if you meant the one on here or my goggle one... The web address is mybigfatbandgeeklife.blogspot.com. I'm new at blogging so I'd love your feedback. I'm excited about our journey together... I'm so glad that I have you all for inspiration... And I can't believe that I can be an inspiration myself.... I am glad I took the lapband leap ... To good health.

6 weeks post op for me, which according to the 'lap band journey' is the standard although not the rule. My doc says he normally does 4cc the 1st time but for some reason tried 5cc with me-- it was awful I almost puked on his shoes. That was way to tight for me so he slowly took some out as I sipped Water & once it felt comfortable he stopped unfilling. I ended up wit 4.4cc's. Who knew .6cc had such a drastic effect! Then again everyone is different. I also had a lot of scar tissue which I expected bc I have a keloid over every cut I've had in my life so that made it difficult for him to locate the port. Thank God he numbed me bc he was digging around for @ least 20minutes searching. His assistant had a confused look on his face so I'm guessing that's not that common that it be that difficult to find so don't let my experience worry you! I definitely feel ill have some bruising but to finally get some restriction again is exciting!

My doctor said 6-weeks. However he also said if I continue to lose at the rate I am (about 3lbs a week) I won't need one.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
