Non-Believer Becomes Believer

Recommended Posts

I had surgery Feb 8th. So long ago I don't even count the weeks any more, so I'm not sure. Got my first fill March 22nd. I started out at 296, and got as low as 271. I got to 271 before my first feel. The first fill didn't do anything for me. I still had hunger pains a lot. I've been really discouraged thinking I wasted my money. I'm still getting bills. When I went for my 2nd fill last Monday I told the nurse I'm 2 lbs. heavier than my last visit, and laid in explaining my dissatisfaction. She was hummorous about my outburst. She explained this takes time to get to the right fill. She gave me 4.5 ccs on the first visit, and another 4 ccs on the 2nd. I weighed 279 on my scale before going in on Monday for my 2nd fill. Today I weight 269. I lost 10 lbs in 5 days. I've broke the 270 line. I've been trying to do that for years. and could never do it. I'd get to 271, and get stuck. Eventually creep back up, and I got as high as 301. My mind is totally different today than it was a week ago when I thought I was doomed.

Just wanted to let some of the non-believers who have recently had surgery and not loosing weight know that it may take time to get to the right fill. I know I'm not going to lose 10-12 lbs a week all the time, but I can get a comfortable feel quickly. I haven't had the hunger/urge to snack in the evening like I used to. I am totally different than I was a week ago. The tool is working.

When we get the band, we are so excited, we can't even wait to get started losing weight. There was a part of me that also did not believe the band would work for me. I didn't tell anyone I was getting it because I imagined that I would have them all staring at me and talking about me after it didn't work. Now I tell everyone, because not only does it work, it is still working.... LOL..... Amazing huh???

Those first few weeks seem like an eternity, and it is very hard to have patience but it is so so worth it!! Hugs!!!

That's awesome!!! just keep taking it in 10lb "mini-goals" at a time... seems to make the "big goal" easier to reach when you take it in steps!!:)

I think we anticipate losing it all right away, but it doesn't happen like that, and shouldn't for our health. I know for me it isn't coming off fast, but it is coming off. I am down 65lbs now, and definitely wouldn't have been able to do it if I didn't have the band.

I also seem to lose it in spurts; I'll go up 5 then down 10. I definitely think monthly hormones are to blame. I know I am doing the right things though, not cheating, exercising, eating well, etc. so it will happen. I can tell that it definitely comes off slower as I am older though, I have to work for every pound!

Patience is key... I remember breaking the 300 mark, and now I broke the 250 mark. I really want to work my butt of to somehow, someway try to get below 200 by the end of summer, or my 1 year bandiversary of August 26th, that would be 10lbs a month, might be tough to do. The weight loss is slow for me right now so I don't know if it is possible, but I am going to do what I can!!!! The longer days really help with the exercise motivation, that is for sure!!

Fortunately I don't have to worry about the monthly hormones. Although my wife says I PMS more than most women.

Sounds like you have a goal and an action plan. All you can do from here is give it your best effort. And it sounds like you are pretty motivated. Thanks for the comments. Good luck!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
