What are you making/taking to Easter dinner

Recommended Posts

Ideas would be great. We were invited to a Easter gathering where they are going to have ribs, rice, etc. I need to make something that I myself could eat and would love some suggestions. Few people know that I have been banded.

This website has a bunch of really good recipes, and has one section for Easter in particular. I'm not sure what you're looking for - sides, main dishes? If not many know you were banded, NOT eating ham (the Easter staple at our house) might be hard, but there are some good recipes on here anyway. Good luck!

How about a relish tray with deviled eggs? Baked Beans using splenda brow sugar?

We're having family over to our house this year and I'll do what we normally do for celebration meals. Its usually a good quality piece of meat in the weber, like a nice whole eye fillet or something, the Condiments - gravy, horseradish, mustard, some roast potatoes, and a nice big healthy salad. We're not really dessert eaters, so its usually a cheese platter. Basically a healthy meal with fresh food. But the wine DOES flow a little freely in my family, lol.

I put out dips, cut up vegies and crackers etc before dinner, but usually dont touch them myself to save room.

Is ham generally band friendly or not? I haven't had any since being banded, but was thinking it would be good for the band (can be chewed up real small). I'm making Easter dinner and haven't decided on the menu yet. Prior to my fill on Monday, I wouldn't have worried about what to serve because I could pretty much eat anything. I'm not sure after this fill, though.

My daughter made a spiral sliced ham for Christmas and since the slices are so thin it was very easy to eat. That is what I'm going to make for Easter. I think those tend to be more tender as well. JMO :frown:

I haven't decided for sure. I think we're doing a prime rib wit roasted potatoes and asparagus and green salad, but may go with an Easter ham or rosemary-lemon lamb kabobs. It really depends on what looks good when I go shopping.

Most likely we'll have the usual - baked ham, potatoes au gratin, beet salad, cheese plate with crusty french bread and apple pie for dessert.

I expect I'll be able to eat even the ham if I chew it well.

I have had good and bad experiences with ham. Just like anything else, as long as I remind myslef to really chew it up and eat slowly it goes down fine.

My grandmother always cooks turkey and ham and dressing. Just like Thanksgiving!

Main course is a spiral, honey-baked ham and au gratin potatoes. Others will be bringing some delicious side dishes, hor d'oeuvres and desert.

So far, I've managed to eat correctly and stay within my allotted food amount. I'm confident that I will manage on Easter as well. Surgery is still fresh on my mind, I'm not completely healed yet which I think helps! :frown: I also feel very full much of the time.

I plan to enjoy the company and well chewed bites of the healthy food choices!

Happy Easter everyone!

We're having Easter dinner over at my mother in law's and I asked if she wants me to bring anything and she said no. So I'm sure it'll be the normal of roast, mashed or baked potatoes, kernel corn, maybe some homemade tortillas (which I'll skip although I don't like skipping them because they are so good!), and some sort of dessert she bought.

I'll just rely on small portions.

I am making cupcakes for the kids and for me a dessert that has SF orange Jello, cottage cheese, and Lite Cool Whip in it. You can add fruit to it but I like it with just those 3 items. Plus I am not sure what I will be able to eat since I was just banded 3/25

Easter will be a big challenge for me. Fourteen of us are going out to an Easter brunch buffet. Everyone's plates will be piled high with all sorts of culinary delights and mine will contain a measely anthill's worth of scrambled eggs and token bit of ham. Boo hoo. (Just had a fill today too so need to be especially careful.)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
