6 months out, and 1 fill later.. argh

Recommended Posts

Ive only been able to lose a total of 24 pounds since surgery. I have had one fill already, and lost 4 pounds from that but now I have very little restriction again and am able to eat alot more.

Im not sure what im doing wrong, or whats going on but im getting really discouraged. I should have lost alot more by now. x.x

I just had my first fill in September, and Im already debating getting another. Is this ok? Should I be getting another fill so soon eventhough I have lost little to no weight since the last one?

Anyone have similar problems? Thanks.

-Kendra

well, I do live with someone who has been banded, but she lost weight so much faster and needed so little fills. My doctor is hard to get ahold of, as is the nutritionist Im supposed to be using, so theres little help there.

I do qualify for both of those symptoms lol

if you don't have enough restriction--get another fill. I only lost a total of 3lbs after my first fill--I didn't have enough restriction--and I waited 2 months for a second one--it didn't help--just frustrated me more. I got some real restriction with me second fill--and have lost happily more weight--but I went in for a 3rd fill yesterdy (about 5 weeks after my 2nd) because I felt I could benefit from a little more tightness before the holidays to help me keep from slipping up. I have only ever pb'd once (early on) and I am very happy with my fill level now---this is about YOUR journey---if you are hungry too much, eating the right things, and not losing 1-2lbs aweek--GET A FILL--its worth your time:)

Hey Kendra, at 24 pounds in 26 weeks you are just under the 1 pound a week mark. (.92 pounds average loss) So you aren't actually out of the range. I just know it's hard when you see everyone else losing at a much faster rate than you.

Schedule that fill appointment. I've had 4 fills, 2 being within a month of each other. I need another fill yet, but I'll have that done next week when I meet with my surgeon to talk about why I'm not losing weight. (I average 5 ounces loss a week, and I'm not even the slowest Turtle.)

Welcome back!

You are doing well as for the 1 pound a week rule, but if you don't have restriction you need a fill. My doc tells me my band is not being used to it's potential if you don;t get the fills right. If you still can eat a lot, get another fill, you will hopefully hit a sweet spot like I have and will finally know what restriction feels like. It took me 4 to get it right!

After the first 4-6 weeks, my doctor does fills every 2 weeks until its right (based on how much you can eat, how full you feel, and how much you're losing). I've had 3 fills, and I'm 3 months out. I can still eat more than they say I should be able to - I've been told that I should only be able to eat about 3/4 cup of food per meal. Therefore, I cannot rely only on restriction. I don't think I would be losing much except for how I count calories and exercise. The good news is that the band has provided alot more motivation and willingness to count calories and exercise than any dieting effort beforehand!

I believe I am the slowest turtle on the board. One of the mistakes I think I've made is not being aggresive enough with my fills (it doesn't help that my after care Dr is so conservative - he'll only give fills every 6 weeks, and after you're at 2.4 or 2.5 , he only gives them in .1 cc increments)

You have a power tool you haven't plugged in yet - you can't expect it to work right. Get a fill - get several - until it starts to work.

Hey Kendra,

If it makes you feel any better, I'm 3 1/2 months out and lost 9 but gained 3. That's a total of 6lbs. I just had a fill (finally) and it was not w/ floro so I know they are just trying to inch up on my "sweet spot" and so one fill hasn't been enough. I've come to the conclusion that it's just going to take time. Especially with my busy life!

I would be over joyed if I were to loose 25 in 6 months. I'm not going to be even close to that.

Hi Kendra,

Other than getting another fill, I would suggest loging your food into Fitday.com and see how many calories you are eating. You'd be surprised just how fast those little calories can sneak up on you.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

thank you everyone. Sorry for the late responce. Im having a hard time getting and staying online lately. x.x

I will get a fill asap. I didn't want to be agressive with my fills, as I was told if your filled too often and too quickly you have a greater chance of slippage. I suppose also im basing my goals and achievements off of my partners. Shes one of those that can lose like crazy and kinda makes me feel like im doing something wrong lol. Im happy for her success though =)

I wish you all great weight loss, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support. You guys keep me on track! hehe you all rock.

Kendra,

Once I started getting my fills, My Dr. told me to get them as often as needed. Of course he looks at my weight loss, and has refused to do it once. But once he did one within 6 days of the last. Now I think I need to go get some removed. I'm losing 5 lbs a week, I don't want all that loose skin. If you get hunger or eat too much get the fill, there's not limit. good luck

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
