Have my band in!

Recommended Posts

I had my band put in on Sat as well as a hiatus hernia repaired. Had it done in Dolan Park Hospital (UK). The hospital is more like a hotel. Unlike any hospital I've stayed in over here. Such a calm tranquil air about it. The night before my op, my blood pressure reading was 117 over 79 (no, I hadn't taken any medication). the week before in Beaumont Hosp it was 131 over 98. The staff were so chirpy, caring and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them!

On Sat, I was really great after the op till maybe 9pm when I first had to look for pain relief. Woke yesterday, feeling sorer to be honest and wondering how was I going to cope with the travel home. We were allowed to stay in our bedroom till 5pm which was fantastic. A taxi picked us up at 5.30 (compliments Hosp) and we went on our way. Home by 10pm absolutely exhausted but so delighted with myself!!

It was great that my husband was allowed stay with me!! He was provided with a comfortable fold down bed, that meant he didn't have to pay for hotel etc. I was even encouraged to bring someone with me. It does help having a partner/friend with you.

This is day 2, and already I'm having spells were I'm feeling

quite good!!! I'll keep you posted with how I'm progressing!

Congratulations, Maree! I'm so jealous- I'm still waiting for approval and a date. I'm going to have a hernia repair at the same time also.

Your experience sounds top-notch. I'm going to stay one night in an impersonal American hospital- I don't look forward to that part at all.

Good luck with your journey!

Oh my God, I'm cringing here with embarrassment! Just read my earlier posting and its so over the top! I tried to make it sound positive but I guess I tried a little too hard! Guys, can we just put it down to the side effects from the anesthetic and pain relief?

Anne, thanks for your good wishes. I think the important thing is that you are going to have the band in (+ hernia repair). This is going to be a tool to help you have a healthier, longer life! Don't focus so much on the hospital, focus on all the possible benefits there are to come. Its one night out of the rest of your happier, healthier life!!!!!! Let me know when you start getting appointments etc. Good luck with it all Anne!

And Blaze21, thanks a mill for your reply! This is such a great friendly forum where prebandsters and bandsters can chat!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
