Odd protein drink question

Recommended Posts

Whenever I make a Protein drink I put ice, powder and milk in the bullet and blend. After it sits for about 2 minutes it has a half inch foam/skin on top. Any idea what causes this and any way to avoid it?

I get that too when I make my shake. I just wait for the foam to settle, then I drink my shake.

I use Bariatric Advantage powder shakes. It does foam alot also. When I was doing the pre-op diet I made my shakes at night for the next day and by that time the foam was gone. In addition to the foam being gone by morning it made it easier for work because everything was ready to walk out the door.

I use the Unjury chocolate and it foams also in the Bullet. I have to wait about 2 hours for it to go down, but that's okay. Minor stuff. I'm not hungry in the morning anyway. Never was much for physics but it is probably due to the high powered blending action of the Bullet.

I use the GNC Wheybolic Extreme and it foams also. Great for adding to a cup of decaf! Mine goes down after about 20 minutes, but you can also take a spoon and skim it off if it bothers you. I like mine frothy.

I read somewhere that the longer you blend it, the more frothy it will get-- so maybe shortening the blending time will help.

I use the Inspire Proteins from Bariatric Eating. They foam when blended (I think that's just the nature of the beast), but they don't need a blender to dissolve well in liquid.< /p>

I just recently got the Inspire sample pack, and so far, they have been fabulous! I must say though, the first one I had was the Caramel Latte, and I mixed it with Water like it suggested, but I think next time, I will mix it with milk....Do you like yours with Water?

I found the Milk tends to make it foam...when I use Water it doesn't seem to have that problem...

I had the same question and my sister answered it for me. Dont put the Protein mix in until you have mixed all the other ingredients then you don't have to mix it very long and it doesn't get as foamy.....

I get that too...I usually make mine up about 30mins prior to needing to drink it..then I stick it in the fridge and let the foam settle down a bit before I drink it...

I use the "walmart" brand whey protein...its pretty good...52grams of Protein per serving... you can drink one shake for Breakfast and get almost your entire amount of Protein for the day...

I found a "Blender Bottle" at the health food store. It has a metal egg beater sort of thing in the bottle what mixes things when you shake it.

The advantage of the bottle is that it has a mouth sized hole to drink out of. When I put my mouth over the entire hole and tip it up, the foam continues to rise to the top of the liquid and I am technically drinking from the bottom of the liquid, with no foam. It is not like drinking out of a straw as there is no air to take in with the liquid.

It works for me.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
