Few questions about diamonds???

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I have a few questions about diamonds, and other gems as well, if they apply. I tried a few google searches but a lot of the responses conflicted with each other...maybe this forum can help me.

I am mostly concerned about diamond grading and the reports you can get. I know that there are several organizations/labs that issue grading reports, so I would like to know: Are there any major differences between them? I've seen people mention names like GIA, AGS, IGI (?), etc...is there one in particular that is more accurate or trusted than the others?

And my second question: Why is it so important to get a report with a diamond? All of the information about the diamond is in the report as far as I know. Is there anything else that it can be used for?

Random - but ill bite. This is actually right up my alley, I work in the industry.

GIA is widely regarded as the worlds authority on diamond grading. They were the creators of the 4C's which is now accepted as the standard by which nearly all diamonds are graded. They are an education and research institution that teaches people to become gemologists. They have no retail entity and do not sell any of the diamonds that they grade.

A diamond grading report serves as your guide to the diamond. The problem with diamonds is that with the naked eye or even with a loupe, unless your a trained professional it is very hard to distinguish between a diamond that costs several hundred dollars and a diamond that costs several thousand dollars. With a grading report from an impartial independent lab you can be sure of exactly what your getting.

Also, most insurance companies require a grading report if you ever want to get your diamond insured.

gia4cs.gia.edu is the site to check out if you want more information on the 4C's of diamonds and what they mean.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
