After I take a bite I place my fork down on the plate, swallow and wait about 10 sec. before I pick up the fork again. But I get stuck a lot so I have to do this to make it through the meal.

Hi there!

Welcome to band land. For me, I chew, swallow, relax for a few seconds, then take the next bite.

If I feel ANY discomfort, I stop eating until I know the bite went down. That can stop a lot of problems before they really get going.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

This is one of my biggest challenges. I hate the waiting between bites. I was told to wait 30 sec, but that is an eternity. I guess I have been a hairdresser eating between clients far too long. I do it the best I can and go by how the food feels. I try to chew the next bite long enough to make up for the difference. I had a fill just over a week ago so I am really taking my time now. I even have to stand up and move around sometimes. I don't want any Fluid taken out so I will do what it takes.... Hugs!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
