Okay so tomorrow I go get my first fill. I will be 4 wks post-op. For the last 10 days or so I have been watching my weight and food amounts. I do not have restriction of any kind so I am really trying to be good and follow the "rules" I recently joined myfitnesspal.com (love it) so I can better track my colorie and other intake. I find that I am getting sticking around 1000 cals a day. BUT for the last 14 days I have been going back and forth with the same stupid 1lb!

Why would I not be dropping weight if I am eating less cals and doing more and more exercise! I don't think I am in starvation mode. How will getting a fill and eating even less make the weight come off if it is not coming off now? I have lost a total of 10lbs in my 4wks post op (all in the first two wks). Am I doing something wrong? I have cottage cheese, yogurt, applesuace, deli meats, eggs, cheese and Protein shakes. Should I increase calories? SO CONFUSED!

Any thoughts appreciated.

Obvious dumb question: are you drinking plenty of clear Water?

Some of the foods you mentioned are loaded with sodium and cause your body to retain Fluid. Drinking plenty of Water controls that a little.

Your doctor/nurse will definitely have a better answer for you tomorrow.

Not a dumb question Btreiger, but yes I am drinking the Water. I am writting all of my questions for the docs now so I will remember them for tomorrow.

I have watched your unbanded success for the last few months and wanted to say "GREAT FREAKING JOB!"

Less than 24 hours for me now.

Let us know what the doctor says. I haven't hit a plateau this time but I am sure to sooner or later.

Hi outside*looking*in, let me tell you I'm quite in the same stage as you, except for I have had 2 fills 15 days ago the 1st one of 2cc each (in a 10cc). But I had had no restriction whatsoever. I told the doc and he said I should have x rays done, hopefully this week. Ive been reading a lot in this site and I thougt: what if i have erosion the only symptom in erosion, (according to other users) is that there's no restriction. Im afraid of having to have another surgery (as Ive just gone through one only a month ago). Did anybody go through this before?? Thanks! I will keep you posted of my developments.

The body is a weird thing. It sometimes just doesn't do things in a predictable way.

We all know that creating a calorie deficit causes loss. The body knows this, too.

But sometimes, it inexplicably clings to it---then drops a chunk all at once. You lost 10 pounds abruptly---now your body is saying, "WTF? I'm disappearing! Better hold on for dear life!" and clinging. It won't be able to do so for long :w00t:

Keep doing what you're doing. The loss will happen. You just have to trust the process.

Your doctor may well tell you that 10 pounds in 4 weeks is exactly the rate he wants to see.

Betsy - I think you are right. I did not take in fact that my body is still thinking about those first 10lbs. I just figure it is wondering "where has all of our food gone??? better hold on to what we got now!"

I have no worries of erosion. I really don't think that would even happen in such a short time.

I used to always get stuck at 10lbs no matter what diet I tried. I guess I will just wait it out more.

Thanks

I completly understand where you are coming from "outside looking in". I am 18 days post-op. for the first 2 weeks I loar 10 lbs., and since then nothing. I was so fustrated, I was eating very small portions around 800 cals. a day. I even posted my concerns and fustrations last week, but since this Saturday, I don't know what happen but the scale went down 4lbs. I am so happy. The only thing I could think was that my body was getting use to loosing those 10 lbs so quickly. I am scared that I will get stuck again. Hang in there it will happen.

I would highly doubt that you have erosion. The symptoms you describe of not having restriction are usually just that. You don't have restriction. I have 8.2 in a 9cc band and have a minimal amount of restriction after 4 fills. 3 under flouro. it takes time and usually a number of adjustments to get there. I see tons of great info on this board but if you read enough of it you can convince yourself of anything.

Update: My surgery was in 01/26/10 and my first fill of 2 cc 2 weeks after that. A second fill of another 2cc was on 01/22/10 and didn't feel any restriction. But today I got the fluoroscopy test and the doc was telling his team that something was not OK, as he couldn't get more liquid into the port, as if the liquid was trap somewhere in the port, they were intrigued and kept moving the needle more times and finally got it, the Fluid went through and the test of the drinking barium worked out, I could actually see the restriction in the monitor. Now I have 7 cc and he told me I should give it a week or two to feel the full restriction. I’ve been drinking liquids all day and chicken broth (with little rice) for lunch and I feel no pain and I feel quite full (not very full). My point is that something in the port was stuck for the first month, apparently. I recommend one should do the fluoroscopy if restriction is not present. I will keep you updated about the developments of the restriction feeling. Thanks for your feedback.

Well - I finally started moving down a little and I went for my first fill yesterday of 3cc. That being said I feel like I could eat like crazy today! That has not been an issue until today. I know that you probably won't get restriction after your first fill or two or three, ect.. but should I feel this stinking hungry!!?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
