incision problems? Mine are opening!!

Recommended Posts

I had my lap band surgery on 2/8/10 and now I am having problems with my port incision and two others opening up? Anyone else have this problem? I may require more surgery this coming week or so. I am afraid to go to the ER as it hurts very badly when the dr cleaned them the other day and now they are draining Fluid, pus and smell terrible. He tells me that he may need to go in and remove my port and clean out inside and then suture me back up and then at a later date go in and put in a new port. I have lost 28 pounds in 2 weeks but it has been a long, hard road. I just wish I felt better. I am so nervous!

Oh I am so sorry to hear your off to a rough start. I had mine done 2/18 and I must say I had glue and Im almost sealed up good . Something must be infected inside ,your body must be having a reaction to the port. It is a foreign object some people have reactions. I wish you well.Let us know how you do.

Yes, he did. I am on Cipro since yesterday afternoon. I am just very nervous about what they would do at the hospital. I am so scared of more surgery. I just want to feel better and continue to lose weight.

Infections are VERY dangerous! Please don't not go to the ER because it might hurt. The alternative is very frightening!

At least call your surgeon's office and tell the on-call doctor what is going on and get some advice.

This is not something to mess around with. Glad you are on Cipro, but if it is getting worse, CALL!

I'd go to the emergency room.

If the Fluid smells bad it is definitely infected.

I am an RN. I don't often pull the RN card, but this time, I will. You need to go to the ER. NOW. The presence of pus and a foul odor is terribly concerning.

I know you're in pain and afraid, but the only way to be rid of the pain is to have it appropriately treated. Not doing so can cause problems far greater than those you currently have. NIP THE INFECTION IN THE BUD NOW.

This IS an emergency. If possible, go to the ER where you had your surgery, so that your surgeon can readily reach you. If that's not possible, notify his answering service that you are going to a closer ER. That way, he will be awaiting communication from the ER physicians.

Saw all the replies and hoping u went to the ER. Glad to see some RN's repsonding here. As others have said, these boards are a great pllace for support and learning whats worked for others, but you must go to your doctor with medical issues. Please let us know how u r doing after u go. It's probably hard to have a positive outlook now, but hopefully once you've taken care of the medical problem - your banded living friends can help with that part.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
