urinary incontinence

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies -

Just read the labia question .. wow that took guts! So I don't feel as bad since it looks like no holds barred in the ladies room .. Was wondering if you had any issues w/ urinary icontinence prior to your lap band? I am not just talking a little dribble with a cough .. I'm talking complete loss of urine lifting milk into the trunk at the grocery store parking lot.. awake 4 times a nite to pee.. I was being worked up for a bladder sling and we are at the point of all the testing is done and it's really just a matter of setting a date. The urologist had felt wt. loss would not be a huge help given my test results.. now I see my lap band surgeon for the 1st time last week and he has asked me to hold off feeling the band will most likely handle it. The idea of spending another year (no band till Aug.. thank you Tufts :frown:) peeing like a dog everywhere and anywhere to find out does NOT appeal to me however not having surgery if not needed does. Esp. given after the bladder sling they say no kids and I am single and 38.. any thoughts? We have tried injected bulking agents into the bladder neck, pills, pelvic floor PT .. you name it ..

Weight loss helped me. I no longer have the leakage problem when I cough or lift anything. Too bad it doesn't do anything for breaking wind aka the walking farts...lol

I see that this thread is a little older but thought that I could share my experience with this.

I had a vaginal sling inserted in February 2006 to lift my bladder for this same reason. My bladder fell following the pregnancy of my first son and the second one didn't help much either. My babys were big (9 1/2 lbs. and 10 lbs. 4 oz). So...got the sling and it didn't change a thing...got lap band in 2007 and it didn't help me either. I too had the silicone injection and pills and everything else.

I hope that your find something to work for you because I gotta tell you...I know how you feel. I have been wearing pads every single day for the last 10 years and I hate it!!! Good luck to you!

I developed significant leakage problems as I gained weight, and had to be on Enablex. It helped, but didn't completely solve the problem. As I lost weight with the band it got better and better, and eventually I got off the Enablex. I have no problems at any time now that I'm a normal weight.

I had this problem for years, until my doctor discovered it was from ASTHMA! I experimented with my rescue inhaler and to my surprise, I only get up once during the night to pee now. If I start to lose it during the day, I use my inhaler and wow, I'm okay again. Hope ths helps someone.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
