First fill this morning...do I?

Recommended Posts

Do I not eat before I go for a fill? This is my first one this morning and I forgot to ask and they didn't say anything.

I have the first fill appointment jitters lol.

In my 4 years in the banded living community, I've seen different advice and doctors orders. I'd just have a Protein Drink and then make sure you understand your doctor's preference at the office visit. ALSO IMPORTANT, you probably will be on liquids today, so make sure you have Protein Drinks and Soup available. Let me know how it goes.

Thank you so much...I'll do a Protein drink. I would think they would have mentioned it but I didn't ask either. Thank you for responding.

I'm not sure why I have the jitters lol after all the needles and poking I've had since before the surgery.

Wish me luck :frown:

Not all practices recommend liquids just before a fill, but it can't hurt. Everyone gets the jitters, but it really is not much more than a needle stick, and just think, you'll be on your way to resticition which is part of the magic of this tool.

I was never told not to eat before being filled and most of my fills were in the afternoon. I casually mentioned on one of them that I'd forgotten to eat lunch and almost stopped on the way there and the girl just as casually mentioned, "Oh, it's actually preferred that you don't eat."

After a little more discussion, she clarified that it was because if you show up right after eating, you could be holding food in your pouch and when they do the fill, you may seem to be 'too' tight when, in fact, you aren't. So I stuck to Protein shakes before my fills.

No fill today...i have to go back in two weeks so she can do the first one under fluoroscope. I misunderstood "first appointment' and assumed it was a fill. Just a post op check up and all is good. 4 weeks out.

She said just fluids that morning to not eat.

I was kind of excited about having more restriction too.

Down 19 pounds since surgery so in a year and one month i've lost 61 pounds :frown:

Glad u posted an update. I was hoping to hear from u. 19 lbs in great! Congrats! Just so that you know, I have a very close friend, she was my lapband mentor, who never needed a fill for a year. Over about 2 years she lost 250lbs. I was at the other extreme, needing many fills to find my sweet spot, so as you start research fills, keep in mind everyone is different.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
