need a fill or something else?

Recommended Posts

I will have had my band for a year the 25th of Feb. and so far I have lost around 50 pounds, is this a normal weight loss for 1 year post op?

Also, I have not lost any weight in about the last 3 or 4 months. I thought I was because I needed a fill, but i got one in Dec. and still no loss. I have been able to eat alot more food than i think I should be able to eat, mostly stress eating, and I have 6.5cc in 10cc band. Should I get another fill?

I know that I have made some bad choices and I could exersice more, but even with that said, I'm just not sure if this is normal.

Any advice would really be appreciated. I have been really down for queit a while now.

I'm no expert, but it seems that everyone loses weight at a different rate based on their caloric intake and exercise levels. If you can eat more than you should, you should probably talk to your doc and see if he thinks you need a fill. It sounds to me like you could probably use one.

Good luck!

It probably is time for another fill. After you lose a significant amount of weight (which I'd call 50 pounds), not only are you losing fat in your legs, butt, breasts, arms, etc., but also losing fat around your stomach. Therefore, when your band was originally installed, it was not only around your tummy, but around the fat that's around your tummy. As you've lost weight, that fat around your tummy has shrunk, therefore making your band looser.

Give your doc a call and schedule another fill. If after the fill you're still not losing weight, then I'd suggest taking a serious look at what you're eating and how much you're exercising. Perhaps you should journal your food for about a week so you can see exactly what it is you are putting in your mouth.

Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

Get another fill and get back on the Bandwagon!! Start today making healthy food choices, portion your food out, weigh yourself regularly. Exercise!! YOu can do this. The band is not magic. You must keep up with the above things for the weight to come off. Best wishes to you....

It really sounds like you need more of a fill in your band. Why don't you do that and, at the same time, make a realistic, but meaningful, commitment to exercise. Even just 3x a week can make a difference. You'll feel better and you'll look better. If you find something that you like, that can be really motivating.

I had a hard time motivating to exercise at first (like for the first 7 months or so!), but once I did, it really changed my life for the better. I have more energy and I feel strong, which is such a great feeling. Plus, the side effect of making the body look better is not a bad one!

So, get your fill and get your bee-hind in gear! :w00t:  I bet the rest of the weight you want to lose will really fall off if you do that.

Best wishes,

Catherine

Hi Jenny,

I was banded April 2009, and just got back from doctors....put in a whole 1cc, but any way have lost 46 pounds told me I was right on schedule....the average weight loss a year is 1 pound per week. Looks like you are pretty much on schedule. I only lost 1 pound in 6 week, but I was away for two weeks (cruise one of them) so I do not feel to bad.

I try to excercise at least 4 times a week for even 1/2 hr....even dancing around the house will help!

Good luck..

Hey Jen,

I lost 50lbs my first year too but my second year I did not lose a thing. I kept on working out but I was having trouble with the food part of it. A lot of times things would get stuck when I was eating healthy that it just got easier to eat something that would go down which happened to be chips/cookies......not good.

I am getting discouraged because now everytime I work out my body hurts, knees, shins and I have shooting pain in my heel. Its so much easier for me now to skip the gym because I don't want to hurt mixed with not eating the right thing has caused me to gain a little.

I had a fill in the past but when it was just a little bit tighter I could barely even drink milk so I feel my band is at the right spot but wanted to share with you to see if you were having the same trouble.

Anita

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
