This surgery is working for me. It is slow and steady in the right direction. I started at 459 and am now 414. I lost 50 but let's say Water retention and a couple of doughy items got 5 pounds on me. Good Luck in your decision.

Hang in there - I know how scared I was once I made the decision to have surgery, but you will get through it and you won't believe how much better you feel just a few weeks out. Think of it as a gift that you're giving yourself. You deserve to be healthy.

Which is scarier - having a fairly simple laparoscopic surgery or going through the rest of your life in pain?

The last two ladies' questions are the key: is it better to know that you are literally killing yourself, or to take a very small risk ( in comparison) and take action to start improving your health?

Keep reading posts on these boards, and asking questions...you will find your answer. And welcome! Cindy

I was a ball of nerves prior to my surgery. Even though I haven't lost alot, I would have it done again in a heart beat. I no longer have high blood pressure, my type 2 diabetes is controlled by diet/exercise and weightloss and I have more energy and feel better. My self confidence and self image go through the roof, everytime someone comments about how great I look. The good angel in me says I did it for me. The bad little angel says I did it to say to all those fat bashers "Hey how do you like me now?" Best of luck in your journey.

I don't know anyone who wasn't a basket full of nerves. This is normal.

You have to really think about where you want to be in a year from now.

With that said, thats your answer.

Hugs !!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
